The Bermuda Triangle area includes the maritime area between Florida, Bermuda and Puerto Rico. In the last 100 years, more than 50 ships and 20 aircraft have gone missing here. How was the rock layer discovered in Bermuda?

Seismologist William Fraser of Carnegie Science and Jeffrey Park of Yale University have studied it. This study has been published in the journal ‘Geophysical Research Letters’. For this he-

• They used data from seismic waves from 396 major earthquakes (magnitude 5.5 or greater) that occurred around the world.
• A seismic station (BBSR) installed on Bermuda records these waves.
• These waves pass through the Earth and bend or stop at layers of different density. With this data, scientists created a 3D picture up to 50 kilometers beneath the island, in which four distinct layers were clearly visible.

Fraser says that this layer is unique on Earth. Now scientists will investigate other volcanic islands to see whether such a layer is present there too.

Why is this discovery in Bermuda so special?
This discovery further weakens the old myths (aliens, whirlpool or supernatural force) of the Bermuda Triangle. The real mystery is not on the surface, but in the depths of the earth.
