Janata Dal (United) national president Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record tenth time today (20 November) amid a grand ceremony at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered him the oath of office and secrecy in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On the occasion of swearing-in, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chief Ministers of BJP and NDA ruled states were also present.

In the recently held assembly elections in Bihar, a total of 243 seats were contested. BJP demonstrated its dominance by winning maximum 89 seats. His ally Janata Dal (United) got 85 seats. Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), included in the NDA, won 19 seats.

Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) got five seats, while Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha won four seats. The performance of Rashtriya Janata Dal was very weak and the Grand Alliance led party had to be content with only 25 seats. Congress, which is an ally of the Grand Alliance, got six seats.

Communist Party of India (ML) Liberation won two seats, while Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM managed to win five seats. Indian Inclusive Party, CPI(M) and Bahujan Samaj Party got one seat each.
