Prolonged Sitting Cancer Risk Study: In today’s busy life, working sitting at one place for hours has become common. Sitting in front of the computer in the office for a long time, working from home, watching TV or spending continuous time on mobile has become a part of people’s daily routine. It is already believed that sitting for a long time increases the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Now a new research has also revealed that if a person sits continuously for 30 minutes or more without getting up, then the risk of death from cancer can also increase.

Health tracked for 12 years

This study has been done by researchers from the University of Glasgow, which was published in the medical journal PLOS Medicine. In the research, data of more than 91 thousand people associated with UK Biobank was analyzed. The special thing was that the participants were not just asked questions, but they were also given wrist-worn trackers for a week, through which their actual physical activity and sitting time were recorded. After this, his health was monitored for about 12 years.

Read this also-Heart Fights Cancer: The heart is beating, that is, it is fighting cancer, new study gives hope

Which people have higher risk of cancer?

Research found that people who sat continuously for 30 minutes or more throughout the day had a higher risk of death from cancer. According to the researchers, with every additional hour of continuous sitting for a long time, this risk can increase by about 9 to 10 percent. Interestingly, the habit of continuously sitting without getting up had a greater impact than the total number of hours spent sitting throughout the day.

How can we protect ourselves?

However, a good news also came out in this research. If instead of sitting for a long time, light activities are done in between, then the risk can be reduced. According to the study, replacing one hour of continuous sitting with light physical activity, such as taking a short walk, doing small household chores or walking around, can reduce the risk of death from cancer by about 12 percent. At the same time, moderate activity like brisk walking for about 30 minutes can reduce this risk by about 8 percent. Not only this, just 5 minutes of vigorous exercise was also found to be associated with reducing the risk of death from cancer by about 22 percent.

Habits also need to be changed

The study was led by Dr Frederick Ho, who is a senior lecturer in public health at the University of Glasgow. He says that people need to change not only regular exercise but also the habit of sitting continuously for a long time. According to him, even if a person cannot go to the gym every day, getting up for a few minutes every half hour or doing light activity can be beneficial. Experts believe that sitting at one place for a long time makes the muscles of the body less active. This can upset the blood sugar balance, increase insulin resistance and speed up the process of inflammation in the body. However, the researcher has also clarified that this study only shows a relationship. This does not prove that sitting for long periods directly causes death from cancer.

Why Do People Fall Sick Frequently: As the weather changes, people often blame cold wind, rain, heat or pollution for frequent cough, cold, sore throat and fatigue. But doctors say that every time the weather is not the real cause of the disease. Many times the problem is hidden in our daily habits, which gradually weaken the body from inside. In today’s fast-paced life, people have considered it normal to stay up late at night, skip meals, sit continuously in front of the screen and remain stressed. The body tolerates these habits for some time, but gradually its effect starts appearing on immunity. This is the reason why many people start falling ill again and again.

How does your immune system become weak?

According to Dr Rashika, Consultant Pulmonologist, Apollo Hospitals, good sleep is not just about hours but also about quality. He says that due to continuous less and poor sleep, the immune system of the body starts weakening. Such people may become victims of frequent problems like cold, cough and asthma. If a person wakes up repeatedly at night, snores or uses mobile for a long time before sleeping, then the body does not get a chance to recover properly.

Read this also – Summer Fatigue: Feeling tired again and again in summer, know which disease is this a sign of?

What is the problem due to weak immune system?

Research by America’s CDC also shows that lack of sleep can not only weaken immunity but also affect heart disease, obesity and mental health. During deep sleep, the body repairs itself and produces infection-fighting proteins.

Does our lifestyle also play a role in this?

Experts say that bad eating habits are also making people fall ill quickly. According to Dr. Rashika, people often skip meals or become more dependent on processed and outside food. Due to this the body does not get the necessary nutrients. The body needs protein, iron, zinc, vitamins, fiber and enough water for strong immunity, but nowadays people are eating more packaged food, sweet snacks and instant meals.

Disadvantages of drinking less water and sitting at home

A study by the National Institutes of Health also states that nutrition directly affects the immune system and the level of inflammation in the body. Drinking less water has also become a big problem. According to doctors, not drinking enough water thickens the mucus in the body, which can increase the risk of infection. Doctors also believe that staying in closed rooms of home or office for a long time can also harm health. In air-conditioned rooms, dusty, poor ventilation and crowded indoor spaces, viruses and allergens can persist for longer periods.

It is often believed that joint pain occurs only after the age of 60 or 70 years. Giving up in the knees, pain while climbing stairs or bending of the waist were considered signs of old age, but today’s reality tells a different story. Now even youth of 20-30 years of age are seen suffering from pain in knees, waist, neck and shoulders. Many people feel stiff as soon as they wake up in the morning, have difficulty standing after sitting for a while, or have joint pain even after doing light exercise.

This change has not come suddenly. Our changing lifestyle, way of working and carelessness towards the body has increased this problem at an early age. If care is not taken in time, then this mild pain can become a big problem in the future. So let us know today what is the reason and prevention of rapidly increasing joint pain among the youth.

Main reasons for increase in joint pain in youth

1. Excessive sitting lifestyle – Today’s work mostly depends on laptops and mobiles. Working while sitting on a chair for hours, less movement and lack of physical activity causes muscles to become weak. When muscles become weak, there is more pressure on the joints.

2. Wrong body posture – Sitting bent over, keeping the neck down while looking at the mobile, or sitting in one position for a long time, these habits have a bad effect on the joints of the neck, shoulders and back.

3. Wrong or excessive exercise – Exercise is beneficial, but if not done properly it can cause injury. Suddenly lifting heavy weight, not doing warm-up or doing difficult exercises without a trainer can damage the joints.

4. Weak core muscles – The abdominal and back muscles i.e. core muscles support the body. Due to their weakness there is extra pressure on the knees and waist.

5. Ignoring the pain – Many young people think that it is just age, it will get better on its own, but recurring pain is a signal from the body that something is wrong. Ignoring it can cause permanent damage in the future.

Which symptoms should not be taken lightly?

Stiffness in the joints when waking up in the morning, pain in the knees while climbing or descending the stairs, cracking sound when turning the shoulders, back pain after sitting for a long time, swelling or pain even after light exercise. If these symptoms appear repeatedly, then it is important to consult a doctor. If the pain is detected early, the problem can be prevented from increasing. Delay may worsen the condition of the joints and the treatment may take longer. According to experts, with timely identification and proper treatment, permanent damage can be avoided.

Easy and effective prevention measures

1. Walk for at least 30 minutes every day or do light exercise.

2. Do stretching before and after workout. Adopt exercises that strengthen core muscles.

3. Sit straight, keep the screen at eye level and take a break every 30–40 minutes.

4. Excess weight puts more pressure on the knees, which can increase pain.

5. Joints also need rest. Give your body time to recover after continuous hard work.

6. If the pain persists for a long time, get checked by an orthopedic specialist.

Screens have become so common in today’s life that we do not even notice how much time of the day is spent in front of mobile, laptop and TV. Work, messages, news, social media reels and notifications, everything is condensed into a single screen. Gradually the whole day dissolves in digital light and the stress associated with it also starts to seem normal. In such a situation, let us now tell you what is the silent stress of mobile screen and how 24*7 digital life is affecting heart health.

When does screen stress become a lifestyle?

The habit of eating food while watching mobile, checking notifications even while sitting with family and watching something last on the screen late at night has now become common. These habits gradually start affecting the body. Screen-related stress is not limited to the mind only, but also reaches the body; increased blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, anxiety attacks, constant fatigue, headache and sleep-related problems are its signs. In some cases, prolonged digital stress has also been linked to serious heart diseases and sudden medical emergencies.

What do experts say?

According to experts, sitting and watching the screen for a long time reduces body movement. This slows down blood circulation and increases the risk of problems like obesity, high blood pressure and bad cholesterol, which are major causes of heart disease. Doctors say that the blue light emitted from the screen affects the melatonin hormone, which impairs sleep. Poor sleep itself is a major risk factor for high blood pressure and heart disease.

Notifications are also increasing pressure on the heart

Constant use of notifications and social media increases the stress hormone cortisol in the body. Over time this increases the blood pressure and puts extra pressure on the heart. Some research has also revealed that excessive screen time, especially the habit of watching TV, can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke in the future. Apart from this, when something becomes a part of almost everyone’s life, then it stops looking dangerous. Nowadays, people consider fatigue and stress as a joke or a part of busy life. According to experts, this digital stress does not appear suddenly. There is neither any injury nor any deterioration in it in a moment. Digital stress keeps increasing silently for years and when the problem becomes serious, then it seems difficult to attribute the reason to a common thing like the phone.

Body gives signals which people ignore

According to experts, if screen time is affecting health, then its signs include constant fatigue, poor sleep, increased blood pressure, weight gain, restlessness related to phone or computer and reduction in physical activity. Digital stress is dangerous because it appears normal, but the body takes it as constant pressure. Due to this, the heartbeat and blood pressure do not return completely to normal mode.

What to do to keep your heart safe?

According to experts, standing and walking or stretching every 30 to 40 minutes can be helpful. Staying away from screens 1 to 2 hours before sleeping, at least 150 minutes of physical activity a week and a break from social media are important for heart health.

Due to today’s lifestyle and deteriorating health habits, the cases of heart attack i.e. cardiac arrest are increasing rapidly among the youth. This danger, which is once limited to the elderly, is now visible even at the age of 20-40. Let’s know the major reasons behind this.

Lack of quality health

Lack of sleep and irregular schedule deteriorates the metabolism of the body. Till late night spending time on screen, more use of social media or mobile games can increase blood pressure. This embalance gradually gives rise to “silent” health issues like obesity and diabetes, which can become the major cause for heart attack.

Sadentary lifestyle and bad diet

Today’s youth spend more time sitting in front of the desk or mobile. Craze of fast food, processed snacks, sugar drinks and junk food is increasing problems like obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and insulin resistance. All these are high risk factors of heart disease.

Constant stress

Academy, job or social media pressure increases cortisol and adrenalin levels in the body. For a long time it damages the hormonal imbalance arteries and increases the chances of heart attack.

Smoking, Westing and Substance Use

Cigarettes or venting damages the arteries and increases the risk of blood clots. Caffeine and stimulants present in energy drinks can suddenly change heart rhythm, especially among the youth who do not know their heart condition.

Unknown Health Conditions and Genetic Factors

Many youths are unaware of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or inherited heart conditions. These “silent” threats can suddenly take the form of cardiac arrest.

Overtrening and fitness misconception

More or extra workouts can put stress on the heart, without medical checkup. It is necessary to create a balance between heart fitness and rest.

What do experts say?

Famous interventional cardiologist Dr. Harsh Mehta recently discussed the increasing cases of heart attack at the age of 25 in a video. He said that increasing stress, unhealthy foods, and lifestyle habits among the youth, such as the use of screen, excess caffeine intake, and lack of physical activities, are becoming the main causes of heart attack. Dr. Mehta has appealed to the youth to improve their lifestyle, exercise regularly, and reduce mental stress so that heart diseases can be avoided.
