Jeevan Gowda, a 21-year-old student in a private engineering college in Bengaluru, raped his fellow student. This shameful incident has shaken the entire Karnataka. However, after a complaint was filed against the accused student, the police arrested him on Wednesday (15 October 2025). Police said that the incident took place on Friday (10 October 2025) in the mail toilet of the college campus, while the victim lodged a complaint on 15 October, 5 days after the incident.

According to the police, the accused is a sixth semester student of Jeevan Gowda College and the victim is studying in the seventh semester. Both had been classmates before and knew each other. On the day of the incident, the victim had met the accused to collect some items. During the afternoon lunch break, Gowda called him repeatedly and invited him to the seventh floor of the Architecture Block. There the accused tried to forcefully kiss her. When the student started leaving the lift, he followed her. Dragged her to the male toilet on the sixth floor and raped her there.

Report filed in FIR

According to the report recorded in the FIR, the incident occurred between 1:30 pm and 1:50 pm. Accused Gowda closed the door and also confiscated the student’s phone. After the incident, he called the student and allegedly asked if she wanted a pill (contraceptive medicine)? After the incident, the victim told the whole story to her two friends, but due to fear and tension she could not complain immediately. However, later with the help of his parents, he lodged a report at Hanumanthnagar police station. The police have registered the case under section 64 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). The next day the police recreated the crime scene. However, investigation revealed that there was no CCTV camera at the incident site, due to which there were difficulties in gathering evidence. Police are now examining digital and forensic evidence. The accused has been sent to judicial custody.

Political reaction to the incident

This incident has created an upheaval in the politics of the state. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the state’s ruling Congress government of law and order failure. Leader of opposition in Karnataka Assembly R. Ashok said that in just four months, 979 sexual assaults have taken place, out of which more than 114 cases are from Bengaluru alone. This is a failure of the government. Women and children are living under the shadow of fear. Ashok said that he has demanded the National Commission for Women (NCW) to send an investigation committee to the state. He further said that BJP will not remain silent as long as our sisters and daughters are unsafe. The government will have to answer.”

Till now that private engineering college has not issued any official statement. The college administration is expected to set a clear policy and accountability regarding security arrangements.

Delhi hc news: Delhi High Court has rejected a person’s bail plea, which has serious allegations of sexual harassment with his minor daughter. The court said in its judgment that protecting the rights of children is the essential duty of the judiciary. Especially when their parents themselves do not stand in their support. The petitioner father claimed that the case was coined due to personal disputes by his wife. However, the marital dispute between husband and wife was already resolved.

Delhi HC’s strict comment

Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court said that the victims of sexual harassment, especially minors, have independent legal rights, which cannot be ignored due to mutual quarrels of parents. The Delhi High Court said in its judgment that the rights of every child are legally recognized. If parents are not supporting their child themselves, it is the responsibility of the court to listen to their voice and protect their rights.

13 -year -old emphasis on victim’s rights

The victim of the case is only 13 years old. The court clarified that he could not be denied his right to demand justice because there was a dispute between his parents. Only on the basis that there was tension in the relationship of parents, the victim’s complaint cannot be denied. Especially when the crisis was called by the minor himself and his mother was also accused of not reporting the incident of sexual harassment to the police.

Delhi HC’s trend on serious allegations

The Delhi High Court clarified that even in cases related to intimate relations, the victim has every right to file a complaint. An earlier agreement does not affect serious allegations and the accused does not get any legal immunity. The case reflects a very sad and serious situation, where a minor girl has not only suffered a victim of her parents, but is also accusing her own father of being a victim of sexual harassment. At present, the court rejected the bail plea of ​​the accused keeping in mind all the facts.
