Gold purchased at around ₹ 2,900 per gram in 2018 has reached close to ₹ 13,500 today.
On January 1, 2026, RBI completed the final redemption of Sovereign Gold Bond 2017-18 Series XIV, the price of which was fixed at ₹ 13,486 per gram. In 8 years, investors got 367% return from the gold price and after adding 2.5% annual interest, the total return was about 387% – i.e. about 21% CAGR. If ₹ 1 lakh had been invested in 2018, then the value in 2026 It would have reached ₹4.87 lakh.
This shows that Sovereign Gold Bonds are an excellent tax-efficient and high-return gold investment option for long-term investors.
