Before the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav has made a major change in his political strategy. They are now moving away from traditional caste equations (Yadav-Muslim) and adopting PDA (Backward, Dalit and Minority) formula as well as soft Hindutva. Experts are calling this a ‘neo-socialist’ strategy, that is, while saving the PDA base, adding a new color of soft Hindutva to it. But will this strategy be successful or not?

Aadhar 2024: PDA formula that changed the picture

The PDA formula is the same strategy which brought great success to SP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In 2019, BJP had won 64 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh. In 2024, this figure came down to 33, while SP won 37 seats. SP-Congress alliance won a total of 43 seats (37 SP and 6 Congress).

SP had won only 5 seats in 2019, which means in 2024, SP’s figure will increase from 5 to 37. This success is believed to be the contribution of PDA formula. On the basis of this, SP also won a big seat like Ayodhya. After this success, Akhilesh Yadav has also made PDA the center of his strategy for the 2027 assembly elections.

Extension of PDA: Scheme for 100 Dalit-Tribal candidates

SP has made a big plan to garner Dalit votes. In July 2026, SP planned to field Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates on 14 general seats for the 2027 elections. With this, including the reserved seats (84 SC and 2 ST), a total of 100 Dalit-Tribal candidates will be in the fray.

SP believes behind this step that Mayawati’s BSP is gradually fading from the electoral politics of Uttar Pradesh. SP can attract Dalit votes towards itself. SP had also fielded Dalit candidates on general seats like Meerut and Faizabad (Ayodhya) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Avadhesh Prasad won the Ayodhya seat, while Sunita Verma lost in Meerut by just 10,585 votes.

Soft Hindutva: New political style

Political expert Amitabh Tiwari says, ‘Akhilesh Yadav understands very well that it is difficult to return to power only on the basis of PDA. About 80% of the population of Uttar Pradesh is Hindu and majority cannot be achieved only on the basis of minorities or specific castes. A major reason for SP’s defeat in the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections was that the party suffered loss due to its Muslim appeasement image.

Amitabh Tiwari further said, ‘This time Akhilesh has made a systematic strategy to break that image, which can be called ‘Soft Hindutva’. This is not aggressive Hindutva, but an attempt to expand his party’s reach by showing respect for Hindu symbols, traditions and faith. It is an attempt to present an alternative, inclusive Hindu politics to the hard-line Hindutva of the BJP.

Akhilesh Yadav no longer wants to be seen only as the leader of Muslims and Yadavs. He wants to appear equally rooted in Sanatana Dharma traditions:

• Support of Hanuman Chalisa: He recited couplets of Hanuman Chalisa during Bade Mangal (festival of Hanuman ji celebrated on Tuesday in the month of Jyeshtha).
• Faith in Astrology: Akhilesh publicly said that he takes advice from astrologers and moves forward ‘only when the Pandit says’. He jokingly called himself a ‘new socialist’.
• Balance of laptop and faith: He is combining the politics of development, AI and laptops with religion, ritual and astrology.

Kedareshwar Mahadev Temple: Project worth more than Rs 50 crore

Akhilesh has constructed Shri Kedareshwar Mahadev Temple in his native city Etawah. According to media reports, it is said that more than Rs 50 crore will be spent on this.

• Statue of child form Ram in the temple: A child idol of Lord Ram has been installed in the temple premises.
• Shivshakti axis line: Akhilesh said that this temple is situated on the ‘Shivshakti axis line’, which makes it spiritually important.
• Inauguration: It is expected to be inaugurated in Sawan Shivratri (August 2026).

In April 2026, Akhilesh reached the temple and offered prayers and learned about the progress of the construction work. On the occasion of Ram Navami in March 2026, he informed about the installation of the idol of child-like Lord Ram in the temple.

Meeting Shankaracharya: Step towards Sanatan Dharma

On July 9, 2026, Akhilesh Yadav met Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati of Jyotirmath in Lucknow. This was their second meeting in four months. After this, Akhilesh shared the pictures on social media and wrote, ‘It was a privilege to get the darshan and blessings of respected Shankaracharya ji. A meaningful discussion was held to overcome the crisis facing Sanatan Dharma and to free the religion from the clutches of unrighteous people.

In 2015, when there was SP government and Akhilesh was the Chief Minister, the police had lathi charged the saints including Shankaracharya. Now Akhilesh is trying to change his image by meeting the same Shankaracharya. Earlier, Akhilesh’s wife and MP Dimple Yadav had met Shankaracharya during his Padyatra in Mainpuri. Under this strategy, hoardings of ‘Sanatan Hi Samajwadi Hai’ were also put up outside the SP headquarters.

Ram temple donation controversy: weapon to corner BJP

Akhilesh is continuously raising the issue of theft of offerings in Ayodhya Ram temple. He said, ‘This incident has worried Sanatanis all over the world. The one who was given the responsibility has committed a big sin by distorting the established dignity of Lord Ram.

Akhilesh also raised questions on the formation of SIT on the Ram temple donation controversy. They argue that this is an insult to Sanatan Dharma.

What answer did BJP give?

BJP termed this strategy of Akhilesh as ‘election drama’. Yogi Adityanath taunted that now it seems Akhilesh is also going to wear saffron. However, BJP had to do damage control on the issue of ‘misbehavior’ with Shankaracharya. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak tried to calm the resentment among Brahmins by worshiping Shankaracharya’s disciples.

Then what are the challenges before Akhilesh Yadav?

Political expert Rashid Kidwai says that Akhilesh is now walking on such a political line, in which both social justice and religious-cultural identity will have to be taken together. Akhilesh Yadav faces two big challenges:

• Alliance with Congress: The biggest challenge facing Akhilesh is the issue of seat-sharing with Congress.
• Balancing the caste equation: Of the 97 district presidents of SP, 70% are Yadavs or Muslims, which means that despite the slogan of PDA, the backward classes and Dalits have not got full support in the organization.

Will Akhilesh’s ‘Sanatan’ bet succeed?

Rashid Kidwai said, ‘This strategy has its own risks as well as opportunities. On one hand, this experiment of soft Hindutva may anger SP’s Muslim vote bank, which has always been the party’s most reliable base. This message can be sent to Muslims that the party is now turning a blind eye on their behalf and is compromising on its core ideology to woo Hindu voters.

Rashid Kidwai further said, ‘On the other hand, this strategy can bring those non-Yadav OBC and Dalit Hindu voters closer to SP, who till now were keeping distance from the party considering it to be only a Muslim-Yadav party. If Akhilesh manages to attract even 5-7% non-Yadav Hindu votes through soft Hindutva while maintaining PDA, then the equation of 2027 can change completely.

Jagatguru Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda reached Shamli on Sunday (21st June). During this, he reacted to the alleged case of donation theft in Ayodhya Ram temple. He said that the truck with which the PMO is directly connected, the guidelines will come from above and the report will go to the government. On the question of no evidence of theft in the trust, he said that the money coming out of cow dung is not evidence?

SIT submits preliminary investigation report of Ram temple offering theft case to CM Yogi, will be revealed soon

Ashutosh Brahmachari has filed an application in the POCSO Court of Prayagraj, demanding to stop Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati from going abroad and to immediately stop his Gau Pratistha Dharmayudh Yatra. After hearing this case, the court has reserved its decision.

In this petition, Ashutosh Brahmachari has claimed that the court has also been informed about the recent fatal attack on him. He says that Swami Avimukteshwaranand can flee abroad from Lucknow on the pretext of Gau Prerna Dharmayuddha Yatra, hence the court should confiscate his passport and visa and order to ban his foreign travel. Ashutosh Brahmachari also said that this trip could pose a threat to the safety of the minor victim Batuks. They allege that Swami Avimukteshwaranand has left his place on the pretext of traveling and is disobeying the orders of the court.

There is already a ban on cow slaughter in UP – Ashutosh Brahmachari

It has also been said in the application that the Yatra with which Swami Avimukteshwarananda is carrying out the promise of stopping cow slaughter is not logical because cow slaughter is already banned in Uttar Pradesh. Brahmachari says that if he has to undertake such a journey then he should go to Kerala or those states where incidents of cow slaughter still take place. Ashutosh Brahmachari alleged that the Gau Pratistha Dharmayudh Yatra is being run under police protection, while no formal permission has been taken for it. He says that this yatra is being carried out to put pressure on the government and the police, so that the cases registered against Swami Avimukteshwarananda can be withdrawn.

He claimed that there is solid evidence against Swami Avimukteshwarananda, on the basis of which he will not be able to escape the law. He also said that he will soon file his reply in this matter in the Allahabad High Court and will give information about the entire matter to the court.

CDR will reveal the truth of the entire matter – Ashutosh Brahmachari

Speaking on the case of deadly attack in the train, Ashutosh Brahmachari said that Swati Aghori herself has taken responsibility for the attack through a social media post. They allege that Swami Avimukteshwarananda is refusing to recognize Swati Aghori, whereas she is directly related to his disciple Mukundanand Giri. Brahmachari says that the truth of the entire matter will be revealed from the call detail record (CDR).

Spiritual guru Ashutosh Brahmachari was fatally attacked while going to Prayagraj in Rewa Express train. Meanwhile, he has accused Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda of a conspiracy behind the attack. For this he has also given a complaint to the GRP police. He further said that every Hindu wants cow slaughter to stop. The message to the public is to unite against cow slaughter. Also the public is requested to come to Lucknow. Every Hindu including Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra are coming together to stop cow slaughter.

Heavy force deployed outside Vidyamath

Before the start of Shankaracharya’s journey, the force was deployed outside Vidyamath street. He worshiped the cow for some time. Shankaracharya has started the Yatra on Saturday (7th March) at 8.30 am. This journey will be completed from Varanasi to Lucknow.

First, after Chintamani Ganesh, Sankat Mochan Darshan and visit to different areas of the city will be welcomed. On Saturday, it will reach Rae Bareli from Varanasi via Jaunpur, Sultanpur, Gauriganj and Amethi. A night stay program is organized in Rae Bareli.

The itinerary will be like this

• Meeting in Jaunpur, Sultanpur on 7 March 2026 and night rest after the meeting in Rae Bareli.
• On March 8, 2026, after holding a meeting in Mohanlalganj- Lalganj- Achalganj, the meeting reached Unnao and then rested for the night.
• Meeting in Bangarmau and Bagholi on 9 March 2026 and night rest after the meeting in Naimisharanya.
• Arrival in Lucknow on 10 March 2026 after holding meetings in Sindhauli and Ijota.
• On March 11, 2026, at 2 pm, Kanshi Ram will reach the Smriti cultural site and sound the conch shell for religious war for the protection of cows.

On the orders of the court, an AIR has been conducted in Jhunsi police station of Prayagraj in the case of sexual exploitation of children against Swami Avimukteshwaranand. Shankaracharya’s disciple Mukundanand is also named in the complaint. This case has been registered under POCSO Act.

Called the accuser a history-sheeter

After the case was registered, Swami Avimukteshwaranand has given his opinion on this. He says, “We have kept all the evidence that the person making the allegations is a history-sheeter. After January 18, FIR is being lodged in every police station to which he goes, while many victims say that they are chased away, this shows how much influence the history-sheeter has.”

Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati said, “Even if the police takes action to arrest us, we will not oppose them. We will cooperate. The public is watching everything… lies eventually come to light. The story will be proved false, if not today then tomorrow, if not tomorrow then the day after tomorrow.” On the other hand, Avimukteshwaranand’s statement has also come on sexual exploitation. He said, “Shoot, but don’t make such a disgusting allegation.”

After GST Deputy Commissioner Prashant Kumar Singh regarding Shankaracharya controversy, now ascetic Chhawni Peethadhishwar Jagatguru Paramhans Acharya has also come in support of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Paramhans Acharya said that Swami Avimukteshwaranand will have to apologize to CM Yogi Adityanath. His ongoing movement regarding the cow is politically motivated. This movement is being done to benefit the opposition. Despite declaring cow as the mother of the nation, slaughter of bulls and calves will not be stopped.

He said that Swami Avimukteshwaranand has made derogatory remarks about a saint wearing saffron. All Sanatanis should boycott Swami Avimukteshwarananda. Unless he takes back his words.

Appealing to the Central and State Governments, Paramhans Acharya said that the governments should declare cow progeny as national heritage and completely ban cow slaughter. Arrangements for cow protection should be made at the village level only. Let us tell you that before this, Ayodhya’s GST Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Singh had also resigned from his post in support of CM Yogi, but after four days he withdrew his resignation.

The country’s image is being tarnished at the international level due to this controversy.

Asghar Ali also said, “Yogi Adityanath is not only the Chief Minister but also a saint.” In such a situation, the initiative should come from their side only. Any religious leader is forced to protest like this only when his heart hurts. According to Naib Shahar Qazi of Jaipur, giving political color to this matter is also wrong. There can be no escape from saying that Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati is agitating for political reasons.

Raising the question, Naib Shahr Qazi further said, “If the crowd was more then Shankaracharya should have been persuaded for this earlier.”
The protocol prescribed for Shankaracharya should have been followed. It is very important to resolve this dispute as soon as possible. Leaving aside right and wrong, the government should come forward in this matter and apologize to Shankaracharya.

Syed Asghar Ali has also appealed to UP CM Yogi Adityanath through news channel in this regard. He says that he felt the need to speak in this matter because it is a matter related to a religious leader. A religious leader may be of any religion, but he is respected by the entire society.

The heat of Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand controversy in Prayagraj Magh Mela has reached Rajasthan. Demonstrations will be held across Rajasthan on January 27 in support of Shankaracharya and against the Yogi government of UP. Many Hindu organizations including Cow Respect Movement, Cow Sevadish will protest in the entire state. Protests have been announced at all the districts and tehsil headquarters of Rajasthan.

It is being told that during this protest, effigies of UP CM Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi will also be burnt. Pratikhar Yatra will also be taken out on this occasion in the capital Jaipur. The protest march will start from the temple of Govind Dev Ji to the Collectorate. A large number of mother cows will also be included in this.

Along with this, an apology will be demanded from Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand from UP CM Yogi Adityanath and his government. There will be simultaneous protests everywhere on January 27 at 11 am. These organizations held a press conference and expressed grief over the strike by Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda. Displeasure was expressed over the attitude of the Yogi government of UP, it was termed as the stubbornness of the government.

What is the controversy regarding Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda?

Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand claimed on Sunday (January 18) that during the Prayagraj Magh Mela on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, the administration stopped him from going towards Sangam Nose. He had alleged that he was stopped midway by the policemen while going to Sangam Ghat. According to Shankaracharya, his palanquin was stopped midway. It is alleged that senior police officers allegedly pushed his disciples and also misbehaved with them. After this there was a scuffle between Shankaracharya’s supporters and the police. When the situation worsened, Shankaracharya demonstrated against the fair and the local administration. Two separate notices were issued to Shankaracharya by the Prayagraj Mela Authority, due to which resentment increased among the Sant Samaj and Hindu organizations.

Now politics has also heated up in support of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand, who was sitting on strike in Prayagraj Magh Mela for the last five days. Congress General Secretary and former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan Sachin Pilot has come out openly in his support from Tonk. Due to which this matter has become more important politically.

Sachin Pilot said that immediate action against Shankaracharya is not appropriate at all. He gave this statement while talking to the media in Tonk district of Rajasthan.

Religious protectors are harassing religious leaders – Sachin Pilot

Sachin Pilot, while targeting the Yogi government of UP on the issue of Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand, said that Shankaracharya is being harassed for not following the political thinking of BJP. It is those people who claim to be protectors of Hindu religion who are harassing the religious leaders.

Apart from this, Sachin Pilot said that those who do not believe in what BJP says, they are made to taste the fun. Shankaracharya is being forced to cry. Whatever happened to Shankaracharya is completely objectionable. This was done only because he does not agree with the political thinking of BJP.
