Conch shell has a very high place in Hindu religion. The sound of conch is considered auspicious and sacred in worship, aarti and religious rituals. It is said that the conch shell originated during the churning of the ocean. Lord Vishnu is very fond of it, hence conch has a special place in his worship.

It is believed that keeping a conch shell in the house brings blessings of Gods and Goddesses. This maintains happiness, peace and prosperity in the house. But there are some special rules mentioned in Vaastu Shastra which if not followed can lead to inauspicious results instead of auspicious ones.

According to Vastu Shastra, the most auspicious direction to keep the conch is considered to be Ishan Kon (north-east direction). It should be kept near the home temple or place of worship. Keeping it in this direction brings positive energy to the house and increases wealth.

The conch shell should always be kept in a clean place. Whenever you blow the conch, wash it with clean water and then put it back. Keeping it in a dirty or dusty place can spread negative energy and affect the atmosphere of the house.

According to Vastu, the conch should never be kept directly on the ground. During puja, it is kept on a clean cloth or a small stand. The conch is considered a symbol of the gods, hence it is necessary to maintain its purity.

It is considered auspicious to keep the conch on the right side of the idol of Lord Vishnu, Mata Lakshmi or Bal Gopal. The open part of the conch should always be upwards. By doing this, positive vibrations increase in the house and Lakshmi’s blessings remain.

Keeping two conch shells in the house is considered auspicious. One for worship and the other for playing. The puja conch is used only for worship, while the other conch is kept for blowing.
