New US government documents have revealed that Pakistan ran a very intense lobbying campaign in Washington during India’s Operation Sindoor in May 2025. Its objective was to put pressure on America to stop India’s military action.

How did Pakistan lobby?

Pakistani Ambassador and Defense Attaché demanded more than 50 meetings with the US Congress, Pentagon, State Department and big media houses.

These efforts were made through e-mail, phone calls and personal meetings.

Lobbying became very intense in April-May 2025, Pakistan spent at least three times more than India.

Pakistan signed contracts worth $5 million (about Rs 41 crore) annually with 6 Washington-based lobbying firms. Among these, the name of Seiden Law LLP (which works through Javelin Advisors) came up.

These efforts gave Pakistan faster access to the Trump administration. Pak Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir got a chance to meet him at the White House.

The focus of lobbying was on Kashmir, regional security, rare earth minerals and bilateral relations. Pakistan also asked for interviews and background briefing from American media.

These documents have come under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

What was the objective of Pakistan?

Pakistan wanted America to intervene and stop India’s military action ‘somehow’. During Operation Sindoor, military and diplomatic pressure on Pakistan had increased a lot. As a result, lobbying brought about a sharp change in America-Pakistan relations. Initially there was tension, but later Trump was praised, Nobel Peace Prize was recommended in his name and attempts were made to gain business benefits. Lobbying expenses decreased at the end of the year. Ceasefire came into effect after Operation Sindoor.

What was Operation Sindoor?

In April 2025, 26 civilians were killed in a Pakistani terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In response to this, India started Operation Sindoor in May 2025. In this, precise attacks were carried out on terrorist targets in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). India said that these attacks were carried out only on terrorist infrastructure. No Pakistani military or civilian targets were targeted.

Pakistan has stopped the process of sending Sarabjit Kaur, a 48-year-old Sikh woman from Punjab back to India, at the last moment. Sarabjit Kaur was found to be living illegally in Pakistan after marrying her lover, but despite the completion of preparations for deportation, Sarabjit has been detained in Pakistan.

Sarabjit went missing after reaching Pakistan on 4th November

Sarabjit Kaur went to Pakistan on 4 November 2025 with a large group of Indian Sikh pilgrims. She had reached Nankana Sahib to participate in the celebrations of the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji. But when the group returned to India after completing the pilgrimage, Sarabjit was not with them. She had disappeared in Pakistan itself.

Accepted Islam for Pakistani lover

The next day i.e. on 5 November 2025, Sarabjit accepted Islam and married her lover Nasir Hussain (who is a Pakistani citizen). After marriage, she changed her name to Noor Hussain. Both remained hidden for several days.

Meanwhile, Sardar Mohinderpal Singh, former chairman of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, filed a petition in the Lahore High Court, stating that Sarabjit Kaur’s visa had expired in November 2025. That’s why they are living illegally in Pakistan.

Pakistani court asked for report

Sardar Mohinderpal Singh’s petition demanded the deportation of Sarabjit Kaur to India under the Foreigners Act 1946 and the rules of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The court has sought reports from the Cabinet Division, Police Chief and other officials.

It is reported that Sarabjit Kaur and Nasir Hussain were arrested on January 4, 2026 by a joint team of police and intelligence agencies from Pehrewali village near Nankana Sahib.

Why did Pakistan ban deportation?

Petitioner’s lawyer Ali Changezi Sindhu said that the police and officials of the Evacuee Trust Property Board had handed over Sarabjit Kaur and Nasir Hussain to the FIA. Preparations for deportation were completed at Wagah Border on the evening of 5 January 2026, but at that very moment the process was stopped. Pakistani officials have not given any reason for stopping the deportation.

Special things related to Sarabjit Kaur case

Sarabjit Kaur was named in some fraud cases in India, but she has been acquitted in all the cases.

This matter is much discussed in both India and Pakistan and now it has become an issue between the two countries.

Currently Sarabjit Kaur and her husband are in FIA custody. Hearing is going on in Lahore High Court.

This incident has been in the news due to the marriage and religious conversion that took place during the Gurudwara Yatra. The further situation will depend on the court proceedings.

Feelings of protest against the Shahbaz government are burning again in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Talks between the Joint Awami Action Committee of PoK and the government have been cancelled. In such a situation, the peace that had come to the region after long protests and violence in October 2025 may go away again.

In September 2025, protests began in PoK, during which several organizations put forward several development-related demands. The Government of Pakistan intervened and agreed to fulfill all their demands. However, now the committee accused the government of showing off and said that not a single demand has been fulfilled. The committee refused to hold any kind of talks with the Pakistani government. In such a situation, there are chances of protests starting once again.

One assessment has estimated that the protests are likely to be bigger than last time. This is not the first time that the Pakistan government has gone back on its word. The people of the area are very disappointed by this.

The attitude of the government towards PoK is the same which is seen in Balochistan. For a long time, people of PoK and Balochistan areas have been accusing senior government and army officials of being involved in corruption. He says that all development work is done in big cities of Pakistan by using their resources. People living in these areas allege that the Pakistani government ignores the development here.

The Joint Awami Action Committee had signed an agreement with the government in October. During the signing of the agreement, it was decided that the committee and the government would meet every 15 days to review the development, but in the last three months, meetings in this regard have taken place only three times. Because of this the committee accused the government of showing off.

Apart from this, the Pakistan government had also promised to remove the names of many committee members from the Exit Control List (ECL) and assured that the FIRs against them would be withdrawn and the issues related to refugee seats would be resolved. However, not a single demand was fulfilled and now the committee members are angry with this.

The committee says that whatever the government has done since the agreement of 3 October 2025, it is all useless. The government had formed a committee to resolve the issues of refugee seats. Although the committee will look only at specific issues, the PoK committee wants that all the issues should be resolved together.

The committee further said that just taking a few steps will not suffice and this time it is not trusting the government. At the same time, Indian officials say that this situation is not surprising and Pakistan has always had the same stand in the matter of PoK. Officials have also warned that if the issues are not resolved immediately, the protests may intensify and its spread to India also cannot be ruled out.

Another officer said that the Pakistani Army decides everything. He has given the responsibility to many retired army officers to deal with the middlemen in the area. They have been entrusted with the task of utilizing the resources present in PoK.

People have accused these officials that they are sending all the funds to the main parts of Pakistan, while not making any improvements in the area. Apart from this, a lot of the funds received from these resources are appropriated by the army officers. These officers have been accused of corruption on a large scale. These issues have created a stir within the army as well.

Recently, in a letter from the Guardians of Honor, Asim Munir was accused of incompetence, oppression and corruption. An official said that the Pakistan government has been lying to the people of Pakistan by giving false assurances for a long time. It is just a matter of time when the situation in PoK will go out of the control of the people sitting in Pakistan.

Pakistan has claimed to have found new reserves of crude oil and natural gas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has described this discovery as a big achievement for the country and said that this will strengthen the foreign exchange reserves and reduce the expenditure on oil and gas imports.

Discovery found in Nashpa block of Kohat district
According to Pakistani agencies, oil and gas reserves have been discovered in Nashpa block of Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There is a possibility of extracting about 4,100 barrels of crude oil and 10.5 million cubic feet of gas daily from here.

Hope to reduce dependence on imports
The Pakistani government says that this discovery will help in meeting the country’s energy needs and reduce dependence on imports. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said in a high-level meeting of the petroleum and gas sector that exploration of oil and gas at the local level will strengthen foreign exchange reserves and reduce expenditure on purchases.

OGDCL confirmed
Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has confirmed the discovery of oil and gas in Nashpa block. Company officials said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has congratulated OGDCL and other concerned agencies for this discovery.

Target of new gas connections by 2026
During the meeting, officials said that sufficient gas has been supplied to the customers this year. Now the government aims to provide 3.5 lakh new gas connections by June 2026. Pakistan is presenting this discovery as a major success in the energy sector.

Resources are there, but questions on development
However, even before this Pakistan has been claiming to find oil and gas reserves in Balochistan. People of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan say that the natural resources of their areas are used, but the income from it is not spent on local development.

Why are Khyber and Balochistan backward?
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are still considered quite backward compared to Punjab. Local people allege that Pakistani Punjabis dominate the army, politics and administration, while they do not get the benefits of the resources of their areas. This is the reason why dissatisfaction and opposition have been visible in these areas for a long time.

Foreign Minister Dr. S. to Pakistan National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in Dhaka. Pak expert Qamar Cheema has raised questions on Jaishankar’s handshake. He says that when Indian cricketers are not allowed to shake hands with the Pakistani team, then how can Jaishankar shake hands. Jaishankar had gone to Dhaka on December 31 to attend the funeral of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, where he also met Ayaz Sadiq.

Pakistani expert Qamar Cheema said, ‘There is a debate going on inside Pakistan that if Indian cricketers cannot take the trophy from the hands of Asia Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board President Mohsin Naqvi, then why has Jaishankar joined hands with the Pakistani speaker? This is the question. I need the answer to this question.

The Asia World Cup Championship held in September was hosted by Pakistan, but the Indian team refused to play the match in Pakistan and the Indian team’s matches were held in Dubai. During this period, Indian cricketers neither shook hands with Pakistani players nor took the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi after winning the championship. Usually, before and after the start of the match, players of both the teams shake hands with each other. After the Pahalgam attack in April and Operation Sindoor in May, tension between the two countries has increased considerably. Even during the match, Pakistani players were seen expressing their irritation over the defeat in Operation Sindoor. Then when he got defeated in the cricket field too, he appeared to be very upset.

Qamar Cheema alleged whether this is India’s double standard or a double game. He says that the game is that when cricketers do not shake hands with Pakistanis, then this message goes to many people that we have not taken the trophy from their hands, we do not want to take anything from their hands, they are not worthy of this. We have stopped living, dying, eating and drinking with them. Who are these?

He said that if Jaishankar joins hands with the Speaker of Pakistan National Assembly, then it is not a big issue for the Indian public. Referring to the visit of Pakistan Peoples Party MP and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to India, he said that when he went to Goa, Jaishankar did not shake hands with him because he wanted to give a message to his people.

He said, ‘Jaishankar did not shake hands with Bilawal, but said Namaste with folded hands. Why? This was the message to be given at that time. Just wanted to do messaging at that time. I remember that when Bilawal left from here, Jaishankar’s words were that Bilawal was received as the Foreign Minister of SCO member Pakistan. Even at that time he had presented Pakistan as a supporter of terrorism.

Pak expert said that when Jaishankar did Namaste, Bilawal also did it and people thought that he was forced to say Namaste. It was not a compulsion. It is the same in Sindh, where Bilawal Bhutto Zardari comes from. There they join hands like this, just like this is the culture in India, similarly it is in Sindh also. Qamar Cheema said that it is not that he says all these things in the air, they mean something. I want to understand the question of not taking the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, not shaking hands with the Pakistani cricketer.

Qamar Cheema said that Indians are very clear about what to do and what not to do. What needs to be made a point and how to make it. He said, ‘I am surprised by the fact that he has told the public that what is the purpose of not shaking hands with Pakistan and if they shake hands in a closed room. Does India’s leadership want to make some changes in this, but I don’t think so.

There is fear in the Pakistan government due to India’s action regarding Indus Water Treaty (IWT). The Shehbaz government on Thursday (January 1, 2026) trumpeted that India is not allowed to misuse its limited share of western rivers’ waters under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi made these comments in the weekly press conference while replying to a question related to India’s approval to the 260 MW Dulhasti Hydropower Project Phase-2 located on the Chenab River in Kashmir.

A day after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 last year, India had imposed several punitive measures against Pakistan, including suspending the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). The IWT, formed with the mediation of the World Bank, has been controlling the distribution and use of the Indus River and its tributaries between India and Pakistan since 1960.

Why is PAK pleading about Indus Water Treaty?

Tahir Hussain Andrabi said, ‘We have seen news related to Indian plans to build Dulhasti Hydropower Project Phase-2 on Chenab River. Obviously, these reports raise serious concerns, as no prior information was shared with Pakistan regarding this project. He also said that Pakistan had sought information from India about the projects it was planning to start.

“The Pakistani Commissioner for Indus Waters has sought clarification from his counterpart in India regarding the nature, scope and technical details of the projects mentioned and also wants to know whether it is a new project or any alteration or addition to an existing plant,” he said.

PAK’s hooliganism regarding the construction of hydropower project

The spokesperson said that under the IWT, India cannot misuse its limited share to unilaterally construct any hydropower project on the western rivers. Andrabi reiterated that the IWT remains a binding international agreement. He said that Pakistan is committed to peaceful resolution of disputes with India, but it will never compromise on its fundamental water rights.

Balochistan Liberation Front (BJLF) has claimed to have killed 10 soldiers of Pakistan. Local media reported on Tuesday (December 30, 2025) that attacks were carried out targeting Pakistani army in Jhao, Barkhan, Tump and Turbat.

On Monday itself, BLF and other Baloch groups had claimed that in the last few days they had killed fifteen Pakistani soldiers. Within exactly 24 hours of that claim, 10 soldiers were said to have been killed. In a statement, BLF spokesperson Major Ghwaram Baloch said that their fighters ambushed a Pakistani military convoy in Jhao area of Awaran district on the afternoon of 28 December.

The Balochistan Post quoted him as saying that army infantry, a bomb-disposal team and a pickup vehicle were targeted. According to the statement, eight enemy men were killed on the spot and three were seriously injured.

According to the group, a military vehicle deployed to protect the convoy was driven away. That too when “bodies and injured were lying on the road during the ambush attack.” BLF says that it will soon release video footage of the attack.

A few hours after the first attack, a second attack was carried out in the night, targeting a military camp in Sarti-Tik area near Rakhani in Barkhan district. The statement further said that the fighters used heavy weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades, due to which two Pakistani soldiers were killed and one was injured.

BLF said that its fighters launched the third attack on December 28 in Gomaji area of Tump, Balochistan. They fired heavy shells at a force checkpoint, causing “significant damage” to Pakistani soldiers deployed there.

The group said it hurled a hand grenade targeting Pakistani Navy personnel at the main gate of a Navy camp in Central Turbat, Balochistan on December 27, causing casualties to Pakistani soldiers stationed there and increasing Pakistani Army patrolling in the area. BLF reiterated its commitment to continue armed attacks on Pakistani forces until “Azad Balochistan” is created.

Government employees of Balochistan announced a pen-down strike on Monday (December 29, 2025). They are angry with the government for a long time because of its habit of ignoring their demands. According to the report of Pakistan’s famous newspaper Dawn, Ali Asghar Bangulzai, General Secretary of the big organization of employees ‘Balochistan Grand Alliance’ said in a statement that due to the indifference and incompetence of the government, the protest of the employees has reached the second phase.

He said that the government employees’ organizations associated with the Balochistan Grand Alliance are conducting a pen-down strike (stop work strike) on Monday, after which there will be a complete lockdown in all the government institutions of the province on December 30 and 31. He announced that emergency services in the health department will remain operational during the protest.

In the month of October, there was a round of protests in Kalat, Pakistan also. Then the employees had opposed the decision of the Balochistan government to include the levy force in the police department. Levies workers had protested across Balochistan after the provincial government issued a notification announcing the merger. According to a report by The Balochistan Post, members of the Levies force had organized a rally in Kalat, which started from the Levies headquarters and returned to the headquarters via Shahi Bazaar, Hospital Road, Harboi Road, Darbar Road and other key areas.

The protesters had demonstrated strongly on the streets against the merger of Levies Force into the police. Addressing the protesters, Levies officers and employees said that the Levies force has a history of 142 years and has played a vital role in maintaining law and order in Balochistan, with many members losing their lives in the line of duty.

He said that earlier attempts at a similar merger had failed and warned that doing so would fail again. The protesters had urged the Balochistan government to implement the High Court’s stay order on the merger and immediately withdraw the recently issued notification. According to a government notification issued on October 16, the Balochistan government, after getting approval from the provincial cabinet, has merged the provincial and federal levy forces with the police in six of the seven administrative divisions of the province, and declared these divisions as A-areas, Dawn reported.

The six divisions where the merger of Levy Force and Police has been approved include Quetta, Rakhshan, Kalat, Makran, Zhob and Nasirabad. However, the levy force in Sibi division, which includes Sibi, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Harnai and Ziarat districts, has not been included in the Balochistan Police.
