Bengal Assembly Election 2026: West Bengal Nandigram has once again become a center of political tension amid the assembly elections 2026. The arrest of a TMC leader on charges of influencing voters has further heated up the political atmosphere. Police arrested Sheikh Sufiyan’s son-in-law and Mohammadpur Gram Panchayat chief Sheikh Habibul Rahman alias Nantu late night.

Sheikh Habibul Rahman’s money distribution incident goes viral on social media

BJP alleges that Sheikh Habibul Rehman along with his supporters was influencing voters and distributing money by visiting different booths in Mohammadpur area. Local BJP workers surrounded him, following which a heated argument took place between the two parties. The video of this incident has also gone viral on social media. On receiving information, police and central forces reached the spot and arrested him.

However, Trinamool Congress has completely rejected these allegations. The party says that this entire action has been taken out of political vendetta. TMC claims that Nantu had gone there only for election campaigning and not for any kind of illegal activity.

After the arrest of Sheikh Habibul Rahman, he will appear in Haldia sub-divisional court.

According to the police, Sheikh Habibul Rehman has been arrested under special charges and will be produced in the Haldia sub-divisional court. Meanwhile, several incidents of tension have come to light in Nandigram in recent times. A few days ago, there was an allegation of a bomb being thrown outside the house of a minority leader of BJP, although TMC distanced itself from these allegations.

This time the contest on Nandigram assembly seat has become very interesting. It is being considered a direct contest between BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari and his old commander Pabitar Kar, who is now the TMC candidate. Apart from this, Sheikh Zariatul Hussain of Congress and Shanti Gopal Gili of Left are also in the fray. Amidst the election atmosphere, Abhishek Banerjee challenged BJP, while Suvendu Adhikari claimed victory. Overall, this election in Nandigram has become a big battle of political power.
