Dubai’s media office wrote on Twitter that a concourse at Dubai International suffered minor damage in an incident that was quickly brought under control. It was told that 4 people were injured in the incident.
Amid tensions with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited India on Monday (January 19, 2026). Sheikh Nahyan reached India for just a two-hour visit, to welcome whom Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself broke the protocol and reached the airport to receive him. PM Modi warmly welcomed the UAE President with a hug and then both of them left the airport sitting in the same car.

However, President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to India for just two hours has become a major topic of discussion. Actually, the main reason behind this discussion is the timing of this visit. The UAE President’s visit to India came at a time when the threat of American attack on Iran has been averted, while on the other hand, India has received an invitation from America to join the Gaza Peace Board.

What did the Foreign Ministry say on the visit of UAE President?

The Ministry of External Affairs has issued an official statement on Monday (January 19, 2026) regarding the visit of the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to India. In the statement, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, ‘This visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India is taking place following the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is His Excellency Al Nahyan’s third official visit to India after becoming the President of the UAE and his fifth visit to India in the last decade.

The Foreign Ministry further said, ‘A meeting is scheduled between the leaders of the two countries on Monday evening. This visit of UAE President Al Nahyan will provide an opportunity to both the leaders to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and the United Arab Emirates. During his visit, both the leaders will talk about many regional and global issues of mutual interest.

What was discussed in the meeting of PM Modi and President Al Nahyan?

According to the report of news agency PTI, people familiar with the visit of UAE to India said that the agenda of talks between President Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to mainly include issues of trade, investment, cooperation in defense industry as well as energy related initiatives.

What is the schedule of President Al Nahyan’s visit to India?

According to the schedule of his two-hour visit to India, United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reached the capital Delhi around 4:30 pm Indian time. After this, the talks between him and Prime Minister Modi started at around 4.45 pm and he left Delhi at around 6 pm.

UAE President India Visit: President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is going to come to Delhi on Monday. It is expected that his visit will further strengthen the relationship between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The friendship between India and UAE is very deep. In the past few years, both the countries together have taken many important steps regarding strategic partnership in many different areas like trade, investment, technology, energy, education and culture, connectivity.

What is CEPA?

The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2022 is an example of this. CEPA is a comprehensive trade agreement between two or more countries, which is not limited to just trade in goods, but also includes exchange of services, intelligence, investment. Under this agreement, either the tariff is reduced or the tariff is removed completely.

This obviously promotes exports. In the first six months of 2025, trade between the two countries in all categories except oil reached $37.6 billion, which is 34 percent more than a year ago. Both India and UAE are aiming to take non-oil business to $100 billion by 2030.

UAE is India’s seventh largest investor

This is the result of the CEPA agreement, due to which tariffs on thousands of goods have been reduced. This is the reason why Indian exports have got a boost in the categories of engineering, pharmaceuticals and electronics in UAE. UAE is the seventh largest investor in India. Since 2000, UAE has invested more than $22 billion in India. In recent times, with the Rupee-Dirham trade settlement and the approval of India’s UPI digital payment in the UAE, the dependence on the US dollar in trade between the two countries seems to be reducing.

defense relationship between the two

UAE supplies oil and liquefied natural gas to India. Defense and security relations between the two countries have also strengthened. In this sequence, recently Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi had met the Commander of the UAE Army. During this, both emphasized on increasing positive military cooperation, regular joint exercises and furthering bilateral defense and maritime cooperation.
