On Thursday (August 28) in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, a resolution demanded to give Bharat Ratna to former Chief Minister of the state late Shibu Soren was passed. In this, a resolution was passed to send a proposal to the Center, recommending the tribal leader and former CM to give Bharat Ratna. State Minister Deepak Birua presented this proposal in the House with voice.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has raised the demand to give Bharat Ratna to the late Shibu Soren, the pioneer of the Jharkhand movement. JMM general secretary and spokesperson Vinod Kumar Pandey appealed to pass a resolution to this effect in the supplementary monsoon session of the assembly. Other parties including Congress have also supported this demand.

Demand for ‘Bharat Ratna’ arose on the first day of monsoon session

The monsoon session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly resumed on Friday (August 22). On the very first day in the House, there was a demand to give ‘Bharat Ratna’ to Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, the pioneer of the Jharkhand movement. The monsoon session of the assembly was scheduled from 1 August to 7 August 2025, but it was postponed indefinitely due to the death of Shibu Soren. Shibu Soren claimed that he was campaigning to get back the land of the poor. It is said that on one side the tribals were carrying arrows, while on the other side there were Mahajan who were shutdown. There was a violent clash between the two sides and there was screaming around. Later, the police somehow managed to control this violence. By then, 11 people including 9 Muslims had been killed. After this incident, Shibu Soren became very popular among the tribals.
