He has been the former Food and Supplies Minister. He has become MLA for the first time from Devanahalli.

Apart from this, KG George, MB Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, Satish Jakholi, Krishna Byregowda, Priyank Kharge, UT Khedar, Ishwar Khandre, Yatind Siddaramaiah, Bairathi Suresh and Sharan Prakash Patil have been sworn in as ministers.

Recently, following the orders of the party high command, Siddaramaiah had resigned from the post of Chief Minister. After this this responsibility was handed over to DK Shivkumar.
