Sunday 21 September 2025 is the last day of Pitra Paksha, which is known as Sarva Pitra Amavasya. This is the last day of Pitra Paksha, in which worship and shraddh are performed for the ancestors for the freedom from Pitra dosha.

In the 15 days of Pitra Paksha, if you have not done any actions like Tarpan, Shraddha or Pind Donation till now, then you can do some work on all Pitra Amavasya. By doing these works, Pitra Dosha and Pitra’s resentment are removed.

It is said that, on the ancestral side, our ancestors come in the form of cow, dog, crow, chest etc. and accept the food offered by their families. Therefore, food prepared for fathers is offered to organisms and Brahmins, which is called Panchbali Shraddha Karma.

In Panchbali Shraddha, the first cow sacrificial (food for cow in the west direction), the second dog sacrifice (for the dog), the third Kak Bali (for the crow), the fourth Dewadhi Bali (for the deity or Brahmin) and the fifth piplikadi sacrifice (for the chilli and insects) are kept for food.

Panchbali Shraddha means offering food or food to 5 types of organisms. It consists of crow, cow, dog, ants and Brahmins. It is believed that only when these creatures and gods are satisfied, there is happiness and peace in the family and planets are removed.

The Brahmin is considered a representative of the deity or ancestors, the crow is considered an ancestral messenger, the dog is considered to be the abode of the gods in the cow, and the microorganisms are considered as the form of the ancestors.

Starting from Bhadrapada Purnima, Pitru Paksha runs till Ashwin Amavasya. In these 15 days, people perform Shraddha, Pindadan or Tarpan etc. of their dead ancestors etc. This brings peace to the souls of the ancestors and they are happy and bless their dynasty.

Pindadan and Shraddha in Pitru Paksha is a special occasion to express respect for the ancestors and pay tribute to them. But at this time, some of the work done by you inadvertently can also make Pitra sad.

The crow is considered to be the form of ancestors. Therefore, the food made for fathers in Shraddha is also extracted for crows. Along with this, the arrival of birds like pigeon, goureya in the ancestral side can also be the form of the arrival of ancestors.

At the time of Pitra Paksha, animals like cows and dogs should not be disrespectful. If these animals come to the door of the house, then instead of abusing them, they should definitely give them something to eat. Pitra will be pleased with this.
