Tariff impact on shrimp expenses: The impact of US President Donald Trump’s tariff imposed on India has started appearing. Chandrababu Naidu pleaded for help from the government

State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has once again appealed to the central government to help the fishermen of Andhra Pradesh and the people associated with this business. Trump first imposed a baseline tariff of 25 percent on India. After this, 25 percent penalty was imposed for the purchase of oil from Russia. Then the US tariff has now reached 59.72 percent with 5.76 percent compensatory fee and 3.96 % anti-dumping fee.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has suggested relief in GST as well as financial package to the aquatic farmers of the state. He urged the central government to take decisions at the national level to save the aquatic farmers from damage. The Chief Minister also requested measures to increase domestic consumption of aquatic products.

CM Naidu wrote three different letters

CM Naidu has written separate letters to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh. He has requested the Finance Minister to consider issues such as GST and Financial Relief, Commerce and Industry Minister to make compromises with other countries in the aquatic field and focus on the expansion of the domestic market.

The Chief Minister said that in Andhra Pradesh, aquatic farmers and families dependent on this area are facing difficulties. He also informed about the steps being taken by the state government in the letter. Andhra Pradesh holds 80 percent in the country’s shrimp export and 34 percent in sea exports. Marine products worth about Rs 21,246 crore are exported annually from here. Due to the tariff, about 2.5 lakh aquatic farmer family and 3 million people dependent on the related areas are in trouble.

Every effort to help the state

Chandrababu said that the American tariff has the biggest impact on shrimp exports. The Chief Minister said that the state government has already started relief measures. After discussion with fodder producers, the maximum retail price of Aqua feed has been reduced to Rs 9 per kg and a subsidy supply of transformers is also being considered. He requested bank assistance for exporters and Aqua companies, including a 240 -day deferment on loan and interest payments, interest subsidy and temporary exemption of 5 percent GST on frozen shrimp.
