In the second ODI, India defeated Afghanistan by a huge margin of 170 runs. Team India, batting first, had scored 402 runs, in response to which the entire Afghanistan team was reduced to 232 runs. Captain Shubman Gill’s historic inning of 154 runs had a major contribution in India’s victory. But even after the 170-run victory over the Afghan team, one of Captain Gill’s dreams remained unfulfilled.

The Indian team came to bat first, but Yashasvi Jaiswal was out early. Rohit Sharma scored 48 runs, while Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan scored centuries. Gill scored 154 runs in 110 balls in an innings studded with 22 fours and 2 sixes.

Gill’s dream remained unfulfilled

In fact, the way Shubman Gill was batting, he had a chance to become the second batsman in the world after Rohit Sharma to score double centuries in ODIs twice. But in the second ODI, Gill was out on the score of 154.

After the match, Shubman Gill said, “Yes, I was thinking of scoring a double century, but at the same time it was also in my mind that I would have to hit shots continuously, so that the team can reach 430, 440 or 450 runs.”

Captain Gill was very impressed by Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey and Prince Yadav who debuted in this series. He said that they are all full of confidence. Gurnoor Brar impressed the most, who took 6 wickets in 2 matches. Harsh Dubey has taken 3 wickets after playing one match, while Prince Yadav, who made his debut in the second ODI, proved to be expensive, but managed to take 2 wickets.

A century came after 16 months

Shubhman Gill had to wait for 16 months to score a century in ODI matches. Gill’s last century came against Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy in February 2025. After that, Gill had scored half-centuries thrice in 11 ODI innings, but the wait for the century was getting longer.
