Perhaps even Shubman Gill would not have thought that he would not be able to play the 2026 T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup will start from February 7, for which when the Indian squad was announced, Gill’s name was nowhere in it. This was even more surprising because Gill is the captain of India’s ODI and Test team. Shubman Gill has reacted for the first time on being left out of the T20 World Cup squad.

India vs New Zealand ODI series is going to start from January 11, in which Shubman Gill will be seen captaining Team India. Before the series, he said that he respects the selectors and also wished the World Cup team all the best. Before being dropped, Shubman Gill was the vice-captain of the T20 team, but now this responsibility has again gone to Akshar Patel.

Before India vs New Zealand first ODI match, Shubman Gill said in the press conference, “I feel that I am where I should be in my life. Whatever is written in my destiny, I feel that nothing can be taken away from me. As a player, you believe that by playing well, you will make your team and country win.”

Shubman Gill further said, “I respect the decision of the selectors. I accept their decision. I wish the T20 team all the best. I hope they will win the World Cup for us.”

Shubman Gill last played a T20 match against South Africa. In 3 innings of that series, Gill could score only 32 runs and was out once without opening the account. Sanju Samson played in his place in the fifth T20 match. Samson capitalized on the opportunity and played an inning of 37 runs in 22 balls. There is a possibility that Samson may be seen opening the Indian innings along with Abhishek Shatma in the T20 World Cup.
