Former MLA and doctor Anjali Nimbalkar from Khanapur in Karnataka has saved the life of an American woman in a mid-air medical emergency on a flight coming from Goa to Delhi. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress Party have praised this brave act.

Dr. Anjali provided emergency medical care

On December 14, Siddaramaiah posted on X that this incident happened on a flight coming from Goa to New Delhi. Shortly after takeoff, an American female passenger suffered severe chest pain and started having trouble breathing. The situation became serious.

Then former MLA and All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, who was aboard the flight, immediately helped. He assessed the woman’s condition and started emergency care. Dr. Anjali gave cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and stayed with the woman for about one and a half hours. He administered medicines and monitored her condition until the woman became stable. Due to his quick understanding and timely help, the woman’s life was saved and a major accident was averted.

Congress’s principle of ‘service above all’

Siddaramaiah wrote, ‘I am very proud to hear this. This work of Dr. Anjali is a service above public service. Even after leaving active medical practice and joining politics, his spirit of helping remains intact. Siddaramaiah wished him long life and good health, so that many more lives can benefit from his kindness and sense of duty.

Karnataka Congress also saluted Dr. Anjali. The party described it as an extraordinary example of courage, kindness and public duty. Congress said that public service does not end with post or position. Dr. Anjali’s step forward to help shows her lifelong commitment to service and caring for others. The Karnataka government on Thursday (December 04, 2025) approved a historic bill designed to control hate speech and hate crimes. The Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention and Control) Bill is now ready to be introduced in the state assembly.

According to the draft of the bill obtained by ABP News, there is a provision for strict punishment on individuals and organizations who spread communal tension, give hate speeches or incite hatred.

What will be the punishment for hate speech?

Several important provisions have been added to the bill, including harsher punishments for hate speech crimes. If found guilty for the first time, imprisonment of one to seven years and a fine of up to ₹ 50,000 can be imposed. In case of repeat offence, the punishment has been increased to two to ten years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹ 1,00,000. All offenses will be cognizable and non-bailable and cases will be heard by Judicial Magistrate First Class. Courts have also been given the power to award compensation commensurate with the loss suffered by the victims.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK. Patil said that this law is being brought with the aim of preventing unnecessary unrest in the society. He said, we have made very strict provisions in terms of penalties and punishments. This law will work very strictly against hate speech.

Patil also said that at present there is no such adequate law in the country, hence the state government has taken this step. He clarified that this bill is not to suppress the voice of dissent, but the law will take strict action against those who spread hatred.

7. Karnataka Cattle Slaughter Prevention and Protection Act – This is related to amendment in the provisions of Central Government grants to slaughter houses.
8. Karnataka Social Boycott (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Bill — has been brought with the aim of promoting social reforms.

Supporters of CM and Deputy CM raised slogans

Meanwhile, something happened at Mangaluru airport to welcome General Secretary KC Venugopal, after which speculations started being made that all is not well in Karnataka. KC Venugopal was welcomed at Mangaluru airport with slogans in support of Shivakumar. In response, Siddaramaiah’s supporters later retaliated by raising slogans of ‘full term for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’.

The ongoing controversy over power sharing in Congress ruled Karnataka is not showing any signs of stopping. Recently, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had called State Deputy CM DK Shivakumar for a breakfast meeting at the CM residence, after which a statement came from both the leaders that there are no differences now. HD was the Chief Minister for one year from May 2018. Recalling his efforts during Kumaraswamy’s tenure, DK Shivakumar said, ‘I tried my best to save the coalition government of Congress and JD(S). Both I and God know this.

He said Kumaraswamy and his father former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda also knows this. Responding to Kumaraswamy’s allegation that Shivakumar had sought the support of the abbots amid the tug of war for power, he said, ‘I never asked for it. I love all races. Many saints spoke in my favor. Had I asked him to speak on my behalf? No. This is their love and trust in me. Should I call it wrong?’

Shivakumar said, ‘Let him (Kumaraswamy) say whatever he wants, but I will not be hurt. I never backstab. I go ahead and fight.

On the criticism being made by BJP regarding the leadership dispute, he said, ‘BJP can say anything for its survival. Should we take them seriously?’

The Deputy Chief Minister said that he wants to call an all-party meeting in Delhi to raise several issues related to the state, including the farmers’ issue and the Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir Project, in view of the Parliament session starting from December 1.

The high command said that they will call both of them and talk, so there is no doubt in this.” There should be no confusion.”

When Yatindra Siddaramaiah was asked whether the Vokkaliga community in Karnataka was demanding that DK Shivakumar be made the Chief Minister, he said, “I have already said that our party will decide who will become the Chief Minister. No one from outside has any right to comment on it.”

He said, “My community is Congress. I may belong to any one community and they may like it, but my love is for every section of the society. I don’t want anything else, my party will decide.”

The power of words is world power. He said, ‘Whether it is a judge… or anyone else, even if it is me, everyone should stick to their word. The power of words is the real power of the world. The cryptic post is believed to be a reminder to Congress and Siddaramaiah that in 2023, when both were vying for the chief minister’s post and the party had won the state elections, they had reportedly signed a power-sharing agreement.

Siddaramaiah reminded of his promises
Siddaramaiah told in his post how he made the world better. For this, he mentioned five guarantee schemes – ‘Shakti’, ‘Griha Lakshmi’, ‘Yuva Nidhi’, ‘Anna Bhagya’ and ‘Griha Jyoti’. These schemes are related to free electricity, cash assistance to women and free bus travel for women. Siddaramaiah said that in his first term from 2013 to 2018, 157 out of 165 promises were fulfilled, i.e. more than 95 percent of the promises were fulfilled.

He said, ‘In the current tenure, more than 243 out of 593 promises have been fulfilled. All other promises will be fulfilled with commitment, credibility and caution. The Chief Minister said, ‘The mandate given by the people of Karnataka is not for a moment but for the entire five years. The Congress party, including me, is working for its people with truth, stability and courage. Our promise for Karnataka is not a slogan, but it means a lot to us.

Amidst the ongoing tussle within the Congress over the Chief Minister’s post in Karnataka, Home Minister G. God has made a big statement. He said that if the Congress high command decides to make DK Shivakumar the Chief Minister, he will completely accept it. This statement is being considered as one of the strongest signals coming from the Siddaramaiah camp.

What did God say?
While talking to a media channel, he said, ‘When I am asked about my desires for the post of Chief Minister, I answer that I am in this race. But if the party high command approves a transition and DK Shivakumar becomes the chief minister, we will accept it. He also said that if the transition was approved by the party, it would be smooth and peaceful.

He himself is interested in the post of CM.
Parameshwara reiterated that he also aspires to become the Chief Minister and the high command is fully aware of his contribution to the party. He made it clear that the final decision is in the hands of the party high command. He also described Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge as a ‘suitable candidate’, but said he had no knowledge of any agreement between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar.
