How did Sikar’s coaching journey begin?

Sikar, the main district of Shekhawati region, has been known for education for a long time. The dominance of the students here in the merit list of Rajasthan continued for years, but the real beginning of the coaching industry is considered to be in 1996. When studies started in small batches at the local level. Later, institutions like CLC took it forward on a larger scale. According to local people, seeing the success of Kota, a model of preparation for medical and engineering admission exams was prepared in Sikar also. Gradually the results of the institute here started coming and students from all over the state started reaching Sikar. This change has happened very rapidly in the last 8 to 10 years.

Sikar changed rapidly after Corona

After the Corona epidemic, Sikar’s coaching model expanded further. Areas like Piprali Road and Nawalgarh Road, which had a low population till a few years ago, have now grown with big coaching institutes, hostels and libraries. According to hostel operators, more than 3000 hostels and a large number of PGs are running in the city. Today the situation is that apart from Rajasthan, students from many states including Haryana, Delhi and Punjab are arriving here. Coaching institutes claim that small batches provide a better environment to the students due to personal focus and low expenses.

New identity given in NEET results

Sikar got the maximum discussion at the national level when the performance of its students was excellent in the results of NEET 2024 and NEET 2025. According to the data, the number of students scoring more than 700 marks in 2024 was double the quota in Sikar. The number of students scoring more than 650 to 600 marks also surprised everyone. Kota’s figures were far behind Sikar’s, which is why Shikhar was considered the new coaching king across the country. Although Kota still remains a major education hub of the country, Sikar is fast becoming its competitor.

Why are students losing faith in quota?

There was a time when medical and engineering preparation was considered to mean only quota. But now the picture is slowly changing. According to experts, incidents of suicide in Kota, heavy competition and expensive expenses are forcing parents to look for other options. While in Kota the annual expenditure on a student is Rs 4 to 5 lakh, in Sikar the same expenditure is estimated to be between Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 lakh. This has become a big reason for middle class families. This is the reason why in the last few years a large number of people have left Kota and reached Shikhar.
