The whole country celebrates the birth anniversary of former President of India and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, known as Missile Man, on 15 October. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. Every year his birth anniversary is celebrated as World Student Day. This day not only reminds us of his birthday but is also considered an opportunity to remember his simplicity, honesty and inspiration. In such a situation, today on the birth anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, let us tell you how much luggage Kalam had taken to Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Reached Rashtrapati Bhavan with only two suitcases

When Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was elected President of India in 2002, Rashtrapati Bhavan was completely decorated to welcome him. Everyone expected that a lot of luggage of the new President of the country would arrive, but when he reached Rashtrapati Bhavan, everyone present there was surprised. Dr. Kalam had reached Rashtrapati Bhavan carrying only two suitcases with him. In which there were some clothes and books. Even after traveling the journey from being a scientist to becoming the President, Dr. Kalam never acquired personal wealth and whatever he earned was invested in the interest of education and society. It is believed that Dr. Kalam used to stay in the government guest house or residence wherever he worked. He always stayed away from taking luxurious houses or personal facilities.

Simplicity was visible even while leaving Rashtrapati Bhavan

In 2007, when Dr Kalam left the post of President, he still had the same two suitcases with which he had come to Rashtrapati Bhavan. He neither kept any government item with himself nor misused any facility. It is believed that at that time his simplicity and honesty made him the people’s president.

Why is World Student Day celebrated?

Every year 15 October is celebrated as World Student Day in India. This day is dedicated to the birth anniversary of Dr. Kalam. On this day his efforts for education and youth empowerment are remembered. Although the United Nations does not officially recognize this day, yet this day is celebrated in India to honor the simplicity and inspiration of Dr. Kalam.
