Huma Qureshi expressed her displeasure on social media and said that her film did not get enough theatres. He wrote, “Films like ‘Single Salma’ neither have big stars nor a marketing budget of crores of rupees. In such a situation, it becomes very difficult for these films to make their place in theaters and reach the audience. Even today, the system gives priority to those films which are already considered safe, i.e. films with big budgets and stars. The industry needs a balanced system, where every film, whether big or small, gets equal opportunities.”

This post of Huma started a big discussion on social media. Fans from many cities of the country like Lucknow, Patna, Delhi and Kolkata supported his point. People appealed to the theater owners to increase the shows of ‘Single Salma’ so that more viewers can watch it. Many viewers shared screenshots of their ticket booking apps, which showed that the shows of the film were either housefull or not available. It is clear from this that people want to watch the film, but due to lack of screen they are not getting the chance.

Huma’s statement has given rise to an important discussion within the film industry as well. Many people believe that there is a strong need for a balanced and fair system regarding the distribution of films in theatres. Big films always get enough space, but getting a screen for small films is no less than a challenge. If the distribution process improves, content-driven cinema will also get a chance to move forward. This will not only benefit new artists and directors, but the audience will also get to see different and better stories.
