There is a lot of politics going on regarding SIR before the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party chief has demanded extension of the deadline for SIR. Even though SP is trying to corner BJP on the issue of SIR, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has started his preparations on the ground also.

Akhilesh Yadav has removed his PDA guards in the process of SIR, who is working to get the votes of his supporters included in the list in every assembly and booth of the state. SP does not want that it should be played with in UP like Bihar. They know that if other issues are left out while trying to tackle the issue of vote theft, then SP may suffer a big loss in 2027.

Strategy made by taking lessons from Bihar

Samajwadi Party is now taking every step with utmost care. In such a situation, Akhilesh Yadav has made a strategy that he will keep the issue of vote theft alive but not with such force that in 2027 also the same thing happens in Bihar. Like Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav raised this issue.

When SIR was going on in Bihar, Congress was busy holding press conferences and presentations regarding vote theft. The result was that the SIR process was completed, a new voter list was created and more votes were cast than before. NDA had a landslide victory in Bihar and the issue of vote theft backfired on the opposition.

Work started on ground through PDA Prahari

Akhilesh Yadav has now taken the middle line and deployed PDA sentries to monitor the SIR. SP’s position is also strong in UP. The party has its own organization on 403 seats and there is no silence on the names of the workers. In a way, these PDA guards are working with the BLOs, who are party workers and are helping the BLOs.

It is the responsibility of these PDA guards to ensure that the names of traditional voters of the party are not left out in the voter list and false votes of anyone else are not added. Akhilesh Yadav had made this plan a month ago after sensing the state of Bihar. The job of these PDA guards is to protect every vote.

SP’s PDA sentinels are active in every block of the state and are constantly monitoring the process of Form-6 and Form-7. Through these, SP has also started preparations for 2027. SP’s PDA sentinels are working on the ground to protect their votes in the name of SIR.

In Uttar Pradesh, the process of special intensive revision of voter list i.e. SIR is going on at a fast pace. Meanwhile, cyber criminals have also become active, regarding which State Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has alerted the people. He has warned voters to beware of OTP fraud.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that voters have been advised to remain alert during the process of SIR. He said that no OTP is asked by the BLO in the voter list purification. He clarified that during this entire process, OTP is not taken from voters at any stage.

No OTP required in SIR

The Chief Electoral Officer said that during the process of SIR, all the BLOs are going door-to-door and giving the counting forms to the voters and getting the forms filled. OTP is not required in this process. While issuing an alert to the voters, he said that some unruly elements are posing as BLO and asking for mobile OTP from the people, such people are fake and suspicious.

The Election Commission has termed such cases as a possibility of cyber fraud and has appealed to the people to be cautious of these rumours. If someone asks you for OTP for SIR by calling, messaging or in any other way, then the voter should not share his OTP with him under any circumstances.

Appeal to voters to be cautious

The Election Commission said that such people can cheat voters. To avoid these incidents, the Election Commission appealed to the people to contact their BLOs. The Election Commission said that voters can also fill the counting form themselves and submit it to the BLO.

Navdeep Rinwa has instructed all the District Election Officers to run an awareness campaign to stop the rumors related to SIR so that people remain cautious in the process of SIR and no irregularities can happen.

Amidst the ongoing SIR process in Uttar Pradesh, a female assistant teacher has resigned from the post of BLO (Booth Level Officer) due to work pressure. The teacher has written in her resignation letter that she is unable to perform both teaching and BLO responsibilities. His resignation letter is going viral on social media.

According to the information received, the name of the teacher is Pinky Singh. She is working as an assistant teacher in the upper primary school of Gejha located in Sector 94. It is being told that Pinky Singh is suffering from thyroid problem and is also facing family problems at home. Because of which she was not able to handle the burden of both the tasks.

Steps taken due to work pressure

Pinky Singh was given the responsibility of BLO of the polling station in Rockwood School, Sector-33. School Principal Neelam Singh said that the teacher had appealed not to install it after being on duty, but she was not listened to. After which the teacher resigned from the post of BLO.

The teacher wrote these things in his resignation letter

In the resignation letter of female teacher Pinky Singh that has gone viral, it is written, ‘My BLO part number is 206. The polling place is Rockwood School. There are 1179 voters in my part number. I have fed offline data of 215 voters. I am now resigning from my job because I will no longer be able to do this work.

He further wrote, ‘Neither teaching work nor BLO work will be possible.’ In the letter he has also appealed to return the election materials. This incident has come to light at a time when the work of Voter List Revision (SIR) is going on at a fast pace in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Action is also being taken against BLOs and supervisors who are negligent in this work.

Amidst the ongoing election activity in Bihar, the Election Commission will start the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in 12 states of the country from Tuesday (4 November 2025). The work of verification of Voter ID will start in many states including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh. This time, like Bihar, only Aadhar card is not valid in the SIR process. Under this, the work of distributing enumeration forms from door to door of voters will be started and these forms will be submitted on December 4, 2025.

Election Commission will visit Bengal

A team of the Election Commission may visit West Bengal from 5 to 8 November to review the SIR. According to the report of news agency PTI, the team led by Election Commission Principal Secretary SB Joshi and Deputy Secretary Abhinav Aggarwal can inspect Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri districts of Bengal. Will assess how the BLO and Returning Officer RO are performing their duties.

During the second phase, SIR is to be conducted in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Assembly elections are going to be held in four of these states, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal next year. During this period, the concerned BLO will visit people’s homes three times. The final publication of the voter list will be done next February 2025.

These 13 documents are necessary for SIR

For SIR, documents like birth certificate, 10th or any other examination certificate, passport, government land and house papers, caste certificate, domicile certificate, government job identity card or pension payment order, copy of family register, Commission’s guidelines related to Aadhar card, NRC entry, any identity card issued before July 1, 1987, land or house allotment certificate issued by the government will be valid. There are 51 crore voters in the 12 states and union territories where SIRs are to be held.

Draft voter list will be released on December 9

The Election Commission will release the draft voter list on 9 December and the final voter list will be published on 7 February 2025. Earlier SIR was done in 2002-04. The Commission believes that SIR will ensure that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible voter’s name remains in the voter list. The primary objective of SIR is to delist illegal foreign immigrants by checking their place of birth.
