There has been an earthquake in Sri Lankan cricket, as Shammi Silva has resigned from the post of President of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) with immediate effect. SLC has issued an official statement saying that not only Shammi Silva but all the office bearers and all the members of the executive committee have left their posts.

For the time being, the functioning of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board will remain in the hands of the Central Government. This decision was taken on Wednesday, 29 April. Let us tell you that SLC was surrounded by allegations of corruption and mismanagement for a long time. This is not the first time that Sri Lanka Cricket Board is surrounded in controversies. Earlier in the year 2023-24, the International Cricket Council had imposed a two-month ban on LLC citing political interference.

Issuing an official statement, the government said that with immediate effect the administrative work of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has been temporarily placed under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. A committee will be formed to solve the ongoing problems within the board and bring improvements in it.

Shammi Silva, who has been president four times, had resigned on Tuesday. It is being told that the responsibility of the board can be handed over to Aron Wickramaratne, who has been an investment banker by profession. Let us tell you that the performance of Sri Lankan cricket team has also been disappointing in recent times. The Sri Lankan cricket team had failed in the T20 World Cup 2026. Sri Lanka’s last ICC trophy came in 2014, when it won the T20 World Cup title. After that, Sri Lankan cricket team has not achieved any major achievement in 12 years.

Sri Lanka warned Pakistan that if this big match does not take place, it will have a bad impact. Sri Lanka will suffer economic, projected tourism income loss. Sri Lanka also reminded Pakistan of the previous time when it visited Pakistan even in a challenging and sensitive situation.
