Cigarettes were once considered the biggest silent killer, but now doctors are pointing towards a new and equally dangerous habit – continuous lack of sleep. In fact, medical experts say that chronic sleep deprivation i.e. not getting complete sleep for a long time is becoming as dangerous as smoking in today’s time. Its effect is not visible immediately, but gradually it harms almost every system of the body.

In today’s fast-paced life, staying up late at night, waking up early, watching screens for hours and thinking about managing sleep has become common. Many people believe that 5 hours of sleep is enough for them, but doctors call it a dangerous illusion. Sleep is not just rest but an active process of repair and recovery of the body, when it is continuously reduced then damage starts accumulating inside the body, due to which heart, immunity and mental health are affected.

How is lack of sleep silently harming the body?

According to experts, today lack of sleep is playing the same role as smoking did a few decades ago. Poor sleep increases inflammation in the body and the natural repair system starts weakening. Its symptoms are not visible in the initial stages, but with time it can become the cause of serious diseases. Even if a person eats right or does exercise, experts also say that the first impact of lack of sleep is on the heart, it increases blood pressure, increases swelling and the risk of heart disease and stroke increases manifold. Along with this, metabolism also starts deteriorating. At the same time, due to lack of sleep, hunger increases, craving for sweets and junk food increases and insulin sensitivity decreases. This increases the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic disorders.

How important is sleep for immunity and brain?

Experts say that the immune system strengthens itself during sleep. At the same time, due to lack of sleep, the body falls ill quickly and recovery also takes more time. Sleep is also very important for the brain, it helps in clearing toxins and balancing emotions. Prolonged lack of sleep can increase problems like anxiety, depression, poor memory, lack of knowledge and brain fog. Apart from this, doctors also clearly say that sleep is not an option, most adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily. For teenagers, this requirement is 8 to 10 hours, whereas the elderly also need to sleep for at least 7 hours. At the same time, doctors also say that it is completely wrong to assume that the body has become accustomed to less sleep. In fact, the body keeps accumulating slip debt, which causes damage internally.

What are the early signs of lack of sleep?

Lack of sleep often appears in small signs. Which people ignore. Such as feeling tired all the time, irritability, mood swings, lack of focus, frequent headaches, excessive caffeine dependence, low motivation and increased desire to eat unhealthy food. Doctors say that if you need an alarm, coffee or a catch up slip on the weekend, then it is a sign that the body is already struggling. Doctors also say that sleep is not a luxury but the foundation of health.

Have you ever noticed that some people feel refreshed even after sleeping quickly, while some people do good work only after waking up late at night? Gold time is not only for rest, but it is also related to our health. According to a study in European Heart Journal – Digital Health, people who used to sleep continuously between 10 pm and 11 pm were less at risk of heart disease. This shows that gold is beneficial for heart and health according to the natural rhythm of your body.

The right time to sleep changes according to age. Children need more sleep, teenagers wake up for a long time, the elder needs a balance of work and comfort, and sleeping early is beneficial for the elderly.

How much gold is necessary for which age

Children (5–12 years)

How much time: 7: 30–9: 00 pm

Sleep needs: 9–12 hours

Children need enough sleep to grow well, focus on studies and maintain emotional balance. Sleeping at a quick and regular time keeps their mood good, focuses and strengthens immunity. Parents reduce screen time and can help tell the story before bedtime or to tell light music.

Teen (13–18 years)

How much time: 10: 30–11:30 pm

Sleep needed: 8–10 hours

The body of teenagers is ready to wake up late at night. Regular sleep helps in the development, mood and studies of their brain. Use less phone or TV before sleeping and adopt relaxing routine like light stretching or studies.

Big adults (18–64 years)

How much time: 10: 00–11: 00

Sleep needs: 7–9 hours

Big adults should sleep according to the natural rhythm of their body. Sleeping out of this time can increase the risk of fatigue, low productivity and diseases like diabetes or high blood pressure. Do not take caffeine and heavy food at night and make a habit of sleeping at regular time.

Elderly (65 plus year)

How much time: 9: 00–10: 00

Sleep needs: 7–8 hours

The elderly get up early and they sleep slightly. Sleeping early keeps heart health, cleverness of brain and complete health better. Light stretching, herbal tea or meditation can improve sleep before bedtime. Not only the amount of sleep, but time is also important. Sleeping at the right time according to age improves mood, meditation and heart health. The right sleep keeps balanced hormones, immunity, metabolism and reduces the risk of diseases like diabetes, depression.

Morning Heart Attack Risk: Often you have heard that the risk of heart attack is more in the morning. This thing has not just been proved by scientific research. Many research from all over the world show that between 6 am and 12 o’clock in the afternoon, the most cases of heart attack come up. Let us tell you about it in detail and also gives reasons.

Why is morning time dangerous?

Actually, there is a circadian rhythm in our body. Due to this watch, hormonal changes in the body are the highest in the morning. Stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol grow rapidly as soon as they wake up from sleep. These hormones increase blood pressure and heartbeat.

Blood pressure and heart rate increase

Suddenly blood pressure and heart rates increase after waking up in the morning. If there is already plaque accumulated in someone’s arteries, then this increased pressure can break that plaque. The result is that by forming a blood clot, it prevents blood flow to the heart and may cause heart attack.

Thick blood

Another reason is that blood becomes more thick in the morning. Platelets, that is, blood particles start sticking more and the body’s ability to break the clot decreases. This increases the chances of making a clot.

Blood cells shrink

Blood cells shrink more in the morning. This increases the pressure on blood flow. If the person already has heart disease or the arteries are weak, then the risk of heart attack increases manifold at such a time.

What does research say?

According to a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the risk of heart attack from 6 am to 12 noon is about 40 percent more. At the same time, a report by BBC Health states that the heart muscle in the morning heart attack is 20 to 25 percent more damage, compared to the attacks in the evening or night.

Other trigger factor

Sudden heavy exercise in the morning, lack of sleep, stress or exit in cold weather can also increase the risk of heart attack. Therefore, the doctors recommend that the body should be activated slowly in the morning.

Rescue measures

Dr Sandeep Kumar, a cardiologist at DMCH Darbhanga, says “Stretching slowly as soon as you wake up in the morning to reduce the risk of heart attack, do not exercise immediately. Get enough sleep and avoid waking up late at night. If you already have heart disease, take medicines on time according to the doctor’s advice”. Morning time is the most sensitive for our heart. In such a situation, the risk of heart attack can be reduced to a great extent by adopting caution and healthy routine.

Good sleep is very important for both body and mind. It not only relieves fatigue but also brings back energy, increases immunity, makes the brain sharp, balances hormone and keeps the most important heart healthy. Research suggests that lack of sleep or poor quality sleep increases the risk of heart diseases.

Sleep and heart health relationship

A study of 2018 found that less sleep and frequent sleep breakage, both increase heart diseases and the risk of death. Poor sleep causes inflammation (swelling), metabolic disturbances and nervous systems in the body, which affects the heart.

Wright gold gold

Left gold reduces acidity and acid reflux. Since acid reflux increases the risk of heart diseases, this position can be beneficial for heart patients. But some studies say that gold on the left side changes the heart position slightly and the ECG may affect. For people who already have a heart problem, it can sometimes increase trouble.

Left side gold

According to many research and healthline, gold is considered more safe for people with heart failure. In this position, the pressure on the heart is less and ECG also remains stable. If someone’s body is installed in ICD (implantable Cardoverter Defibrillator), then they find sleeping on the side of that side. Most of the ICD is applied on the left side, so such people find it better to sleep right.

Sleeping on the back

Sleeping on the back is not considered good for heart patients. By doing this, the airway can be blocked and sleep apnea can increase. This causes oxygen level to fall and can have a serious effect on the heart. A recent 2025 study suggests that those who sleep on the back have more positional obstructive sleep apnea, which increases heart risk.

Sleeping on the stomach

Sleeping on the stomach is not directly related to heart disease, but it can cause difficulty in breathing and pressure on the spine. This worsens the quality of sleep and can have an indirect effect on heart health for a long time. Based on research, it can be said that gold is considered to be the safest and comfortable for heart patients. However, every person’s medical condition is different, so it is necessary to consult a doctor before adopting any position.
