Fake KYC Message: In today’s time, thugs are adopting new tactics to target people. The most common method is to trap people by sending messages in the name of fake KYC updates. In such a situation, if in recent times you have also received an SMS or WhatsApp message warning about closure of your bank account in the name of KYC update, then be alert.

Actually, these days cyber thugs are trying to trick people by sending fake messages. By sending a link in the message, it is claimed that if you do not do KYC immediately, the bank account will be closed. Most people get nervous after seeing such messages and click on the link without thinking. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has advised people to be cautious to avoid such frauds.

What is KYC update scam?

First of all, cyber thugs send fake SMS or WhatsApp messages asking for KYC update. In the message, it is claimed to update KYC immediately and if KYC is not done within the stipulated time, your bank account will be closed. In such a situation, people often click on the given link due to panic and get trapped in the trap of fraudsters. After which the fraudsters obtain banking information and withdraw money from the account.

What can happen by clicking on a fake link?

• You may be sent to a fake bank website through a fake link.
• There, in the name of KYC, bank account number, OTP, PIN or password can be asked.

RBI told easy ways to avoid fraud

• Stop: If someone is pressurizing you to take immediate action through message, then first remain calm and do not take any hasty step.
• Sochain: Banks never ask for information to update KYC by sending a link on SMS or WhatsApp message. In such a situation, confirm any information from the official website, mobile app or branch only.
• Take precautions: Do not click on any unknown link and do not share OTP, PIN, password or banking information with anyone.

What to do when you get such messages?

• Avoid clicking on any fake link.
• Check message details directly with your bank.
• If you have clicked on any link by mistake, inform the bank immediately.
• If necessary, lodge a complaint on the cyber helpline.
