A heartbreaking incident has come to light near Bannerghatta Resarv Forest on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Manju Prakash (41), a software employee here, died when he was bitten by a snake hidden in the slippers outside the house. Manju Prakash was working from home for the last several days and was on a week leave.

On Sunday (August 31, 2025), Manju came out of her house to drink juice and wore a slippers kept outside the house. After some time Manju Prakash came home. He gave the mother a packet of juice and then went to sleep in the house room. He did not know at all that the snake is hidden in his slippers.

According to the family, the sensation of his leg was lost in an earlier accident, due to which he did not even realize the snake bite. The laborer doing construction work near the house saw the snake in the slippers and informed the family. When the slippers were taken out, the hidden snake was dead in it.

The mother went to the room and wanted to lift the son, but by that time Manju was getting foam out of Prakash’s mouth and he had died due to snake poison. The family immediately rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The family and the surrounding people were shocked by this sudden incident.

Experts say that poisonous snakes still have breeding time. In such a situation, snakes are coming out in search of food and warmth. This can cause severe damage to tissue (tissue necrosis) and in many cases the organ may have to be cut. Apart from this, when the tight bandage is removed, the poison accumulated can suddenly spread rapidly throughout the body, which can worsen the condition. In a study of 2025, the Journal of Emergency Medicine said that the organs were permanently damaged in 30 % patients using the tournament. At the same time, the rate of recovery in patients was found to be more than 90 % in patients for giving correct first aid and antivenum on time.

What to do if the snake bites?

Give primary treatment on snake bite

Remove tight clothes and jewelry from the affected limb before swelling, so that the blood flow does not stop. Clean the cutting space with soap and water gently, but do not rub. Apart from this, take the patient to the hospital as soon as possible, where antigens and other treatment will be found.

The ‘broad-spectrum’ or ‘polyvelling’ is made by injection of poison mixture of various species of snakes. However, increased amounts of antibodies per dose can increase the risk of adverse reactions.

Another challenge with mixed poisons is that some poison that produce strong immune response can affect the production of antibodies against other equally dangerous poisons.
