Before the official Instagram account of the Royal Family of Nepal, King Gyanendra B. B. Shah has expressed his condolences on the recent violence. He said that whatever happened is very sad and painful. He expressed deep condolences to the families of those who died in this incident.

Gyanendra Shah said in clear terms that strict action should be taken against those who are responsible for this condemnable incident and no convict should be spared against them. In his message, he also recalled the courage and contribution of Jean ji (the person martyred during the performance). He said that the courage with which Jean ji raised his voice against injustice and corruption is commendable and the country should always respect for his efforts.

Former king gave this message to the youth

The former king inspired the youth and said, “O Veer, do not talk about retreat. If you want to get mother (Janani), then Nepal will have to be found.” This message of him is being considered a big statement in view of the current situation in Nepal and the increasing dissatisfaction among the public. The root of violence in Nepal is corruption and deteriorating economy.

Why did people get angry in Nepal?

The situation in Nepal became more tense when the government banned 26 social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and YouTube. Angry with this decision, the youth started the movement in the name of Gen-Z revolution from 8 September. Gradually, this protest became so fast that the situation went out of the government’s control. In the end, Prime Minister KP Oli Sharma resigned and had to leave the country and flee.

Consent in the name of Sushila Karki

In Nepal’s politics, the stir has intensified about the new government. The name of Sushila Karki has been agreed and its information has been given to the speaker of Parliament. Earlier, President Ramchandra Paudel had met party leaders to create political consent. He spoke to the Maoist Center President Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ after consulting legal experts. Apart from this, he also spoke on the phone to Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Vishwaprakash Sharma.

After banning social media apps in Nepal, a huge protest started, which has now taken violent form. The government had banned many social media apps including Facebook, YouTube and WhatsApp, handing over the rules. After this, 20 people died and 300 were injured in violent protests across the country. This is not the first time a country has banned social media. Even before this, many countries have done this. Let’s take a look at the list of these countries.

China

After the riots in Shinjiang province in 2009, the Chinese government banned companies like Facebook, X and Google. The government had imposed this ban to maintain political control, prevent anti -government information from reaching people and allegedly protect its citizens from foreign influence. This ban is still going on on foreign apps and only apps of local companies can be used here.

Iran

Since 2009, social media platforms have been banned in Iran and apps like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp cannot be accessed here. This ban was imposed as a result of anti -government movements. However, this ban could not succeed completely and now people here are using social media apps through VPN.

Turkas

Turki also banned apps like Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia in the name of action and security against terrorism. This ban imposed in 2014 had to be removed in 2016. It proved to be a temporary ban and the government later had to withdraw its decision.

Egypt

Egypt took large -scale demonstrations in 2011 and is known as Arab Spring. Many people consider it to be the first big change through social media. Due to this demonstration across the country, the government there fell. After this, social media apps were banned here.

Pakistan

In India’s neighboring country, Pakistan was banned from 2021 to 2011 on YouTube, X and Ticketops. The Government of Pakistan had banned these platforms while taking action on allegations of hurting religious sentiments and spreading obscenity. However, later the decision had to be withdrawn.

Russia

After the war with Ukraine in 2022, Russia banned several apps including Facebook and Instagram. Russia said that these apps are promoting war propaganda. Now local apps are being promoted in their place.

Demonstrations against ban on social media in Nepal have now taken a very violent form. Now the protest is not limited to social media ban, but has become a voice against the corruption and nepotism of the government. Thousands of youth are on the road and are shouting slogans and violent protests against KP Sharma Oli government. Sudan Gurung has emerged as the main face of this whole movement. Let’s know who is Sudan Gurung and how he has challenged Nepal’s power …

How did the movement begin?
The Nepal government suddenly banned 26 social media platforms on 4 September 2025. Ban on major sites like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube and X instigated the youth. Meanwhile, the youth organization called ‘Hami Nepal’ started organizing the protest. 36 -year -old Sudan Gurung is leading it. United the youth using social media and included them in peaceful but strong performance.

Who is Sudan Gurung?
Sudan Gurung is a social worker and president of an NGO named ‘Hami Nepal’. His organization was registered in 2020. This organization works for help, youth empowerment and social change in natural disasters. Gurung’s organization is very popular among the youth of Nepal. Therefore, thousands of youth took to the streets on one of his voice. Sudan Gurung said that his aim is not just to remove the ban on social media, but to fight against corruption and wrong policies of the government.

What is the demand by Sudan Gurung?
Sudan Gurung has released a video and made clear demands, in which he has said-

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli should resign immediately.

All provincial ministers should also resign.

Those who shot the protesters, should take strict action on them.

An interim government of youth should be formed in Nepal.

The performance with these demands has become even faster.

In Nepal, protesters have set the houses of many big leaders including the President on fire. The major parts of the country are being vandalized. The protesters are neither ready to calm down, nor to retreat.

After the resignation of nine ministers of the ruling Nepali Congress, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has given clear instructions to his party UML ministers not to resign under any circumstances. According to sources, Oli said that when other ministers of the coalition are going, then the UML ministers should remain in their post firmly.

According to the information quoted by Nepali media, Oli is still adamant that external anti -social elements were infiltrated on Monday (September 08), due to which the situation became violent. He assured his ministers that strict action will be taken against the culprits and after investigation they will be punished.

PM Oli is preparing to go to Dubai

Meanwhile, sources have revealed that Prime Minister Oli is also worried about his security. In view of the increasing tension of protests, they are preparing to go to Dubai on the pretext of treatment. It is being told that the option of flight of Himalayan Airlines has been chosen for this.

Protesters burnt minister’s house

The protesters set fire to the residence of Information Minister Prithvibaba Gurung and former Prime Minister Pushp Kamal Dahal on Monday night. Apart from this, the crowd was also moving towards the house of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Government ordered an inquiry into violence

The government has constituted a high -level committee to investigate the incidents of this violence, which has to be submitted in 15 days. However, sources say that Oli suspects that the committee will be able to give any concrete result soon. Meanwhile, protests continued at several places on Tuesday despite curfew being implemented.

On Monday, youths performed fiercely in the capital Kathmandu and other areas against the ban on social media in Nepal. During this time at least 21 people died and more than 300 people were injured. After violent performance, Home Minister Ramesh writer resigned from his post. The Nepali army was deployed to prevent rising incidents and controlled the routes around the Parliament complex in the new Baneshwor.

The youth expressed anger against the government

Thousands of youths gathered in front of Parliament House under the banner of ‘Gen-Z’ in Kathmandu, including school students. He demanded immediate removal of the social media ban and raised anti -government slogans. The protest was initially peaceful, but became violent when some protesters entered the Parliament complex. After this, the police tried to disperse the crowd using lathicharge, tear gas shells and rubber bullets. Demonstrations took place in other cities like Pokhara, Butwal, Bhairahwa, Bharatpur, Itahari and Damak.

Home Minister Ramesh writer’s resignation
According to Nepali Congress sources, Home Minister Ramesh writer resigned on moral grounds in view of violent performance. The author submitted his resignation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at a cabinet meeting held at Baluvatar. This resignation came between the increasing pressure on the government and deteriorating situation.

Prime Minister Oli’s statement
Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said in Sunday’s cabinet meeting that he could leave the post of Prime Minister, but will not lift the social media ban imposed on 4 September. His statement came amidst the increasing corruption, unemployment and violent demonstrations of Gen-Z in Kathmandu and other cities.

How this movement started in Nepal
The government was busy registering social media companies, at the same time a new issue was emerging in Nepal. Some youths started sharing photos and videos on tickets showing the luxury life of the children of the leaders of the country. The hashtag of this campaign was ‘#NePokid’. Its purpose was to tell that the leaders come to power and do good for their children, but do not work for the country. The campaigners appealed to the youth to join the movement against corruption. For this, people were also appealed to join tickets and other social media platforms.

The atmosphere deteriorated due to social media ban
On August 4, the government banned a total of 26 social media platforms including Facebook, X, WhatsApp, YouTube across the country. This decision became the anger of the people and increased. People started comparing the luxury life of the children of the leaders and the difficult life of the poor of the country. These posts and videos started becoming increasingly viral on social media. This protest started with ‘Napo Kids’ Hastag, now a discussion has also been made against the policies of the government and the large -scale corruption.

Where did Napo Kid Trend come from?
In fact, it is being said that the violent performances in Nepal have been inspired by the big protests against the government in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. A protestor told Al Jazeera that ‘Napo Kids’ came from Trend Philippines. In viral videos on tickets, children of Nepali Politicians were shown living luxury life. The September 4 decision of the government intensified the protests across the country. It was told in this decision that this step was taken to block many social media platforms in the national interest.
