India-Rus Trade Deal: There is a tussle between India and America about the trade deal at this time. US President Donald Trump has imposed 50 percent tariff on India. Meanwhile, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has given a big statement regarding the trade deal. He made it clear that India will not finalize any deal in a hurry about the talks on the ongoing bilateral trade agreement (BTA). Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, ‘We never tie trade agreements within a deadline. Our goal is to make agreements good and beneficial for both countries. India is always ready for a deal based on equality and fairness.

‘Conversation with America is going on’

He informed that active talks are going on between India and America regarding bilateral trade agreement. Since March, five rounds of meetings have been held. However, the sixth round of talks on August 25 were postponed after the US government imposed a 50% fee on Indian products from August 27. The date of the next meeting has not been decided so far.

‘India is leading in the field of renewable energy’

He said at the 20th Global Sustainability Summit held on Tuesday (September 2) that India is leading the world in the field of renewable energy today. He informed that India is providing clean energy round the clock at the rate of only ₹ 4.60 to ₹ 5 per unit (about 5 cents), which is the cheapest in the world.

He further said, ‘Before 2014, electricity was very expensive and less in many parts of the country. At that time, people in some states had to buy electricity from Rs 12 to 13 per unit. But after the formation of the national grid, the situation changed and now in areas like South India, electricity is getting electricity at a cheaper rate almost before.

‘5 times expansion in solar energy’

He said that during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the renewable energy sector has made record progress. The initial target of solar energy was laid down 20 GW, which was increased to 100 GW and was also completed on time. He said that transparent auction and competition reduced solar energy rates from ₹ 7–8 per unit to ₹ 2 per unit.

India, which is known for its huge rail network and technological progress, is now moving towards solar energy trains. Indian Railways has taken several steps towards green and sustainable energy in recent years and solar energy -operated trains are an important step in this direction. However, India is not a pioneer in this region as many other countries have already implemented solar energy -powered trains. Let’s know about those countries.

India’s first solar energy operated train

Indian Railways launched its first solar power-powered DEMU (Diesel-Electric Multiple Unit) train in 2017 from Safdarjung railway station in Delhi. In this train, 16 solar panels were installed on eight coaches, which provided electricity to the electrical equipment of the train like fans and lights. This train used to run from Sarai Rohilla in Delhi to Farooq Nagar in Haryana. It was also beneficial for the environment as it reduced 2.7 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Solar energy powered trains

Recently, Indian Railways has planned to start a solar-powered train on Howrah-New Delhi route in Bihar, for which a solar power plant has been set up in Bina, Madhya Pradesh. Banaras Locomotive Works has also made a unique experiment by installing 28 solar panels on the 70 meter rail track, which will contribute to electricity savings and environmental protection. However, before India, many countries have run trains with solar energy.

These countries have already taken initiative

In 2017, Australia launched the world’s first fully fully solar energy train under the Biren Bay Railroad Company. The train runs on a 3 -km route in New South Wales and is operated by a battery charged with solar panels. The specialty of this train is that it is completely diesel-free and produces zero emissions for the environment.

Germany is also a leader in this region. Germany trains run by combining solar energy and battery storage systems, which ensure uninterrupted operations even in night or low sunlight. Japan has also started using solar energy in railway stations and trains. Tokyo Metro has installed solar panels at some of its railway stations, which help in operating trains. China has also started work on solar energy-powered high-speed trains. Solar panels have been installed on the Beijing-Sanghai rail corridor, which generate electricity for trains.
