Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev: Yoga guru Swami Ramdev recently shared his views on modern health challenges through a Facebook Live session. He clarified that the solution to genetic, environmental and lifestyle related diseases lies not in medicines alone, but in the ‘ultimate medicine’ and a disciplined way of life.

According to Swami Ramdev, modern medicine has its own importance, but it often treats only the symptoms. Referring to Indian traditional knowledge, he explained the difference between ‘medicine’ and ‘param medicine’. According to him, ‘Param Aushadhi’ is a holistic approach that focuses on curing the root cause of the disease rather than its symptoms.

Attacking genetic and environmental challenges

Expressing concern over the increasing diseases in today’s times, he said that many health problems are the result of genetic predisposition, pollution and stressful lifestyle. Referring specifically to ‘Pralabdha Doshas’ (defects related to fate or karma), he said that even these, which are often considered incurable, can be managed to a great extent through consistent yoga, pranayam and balanced nutrition.

Advice to stay away from synthetic products

Swami Ramdev warned against increasing environmental diseases. He said that contamination of air, water and food has put human health at risk. He called for reducing excessive dependence on chemicals and synthetic products. According to him, long-term use of chemicals is harmful not only for the human body but also for the entire ecosystem.

Call for indigenous and holistic lifestyle

Reiterating his commitment to promote traditional systems through Patanjali, he said that lifestyle diseases like diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure can be prevented by self-discipline and physical activity. He finally appealed to the audience to make Ayurveda, Yoga and ethical living a part of their daily life for long term health benefits.
