South Zone has declared its squad for the Dilip Trophy. The team’s captaincy has been received by Tilak Verma, who has also been selected in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup. But the South Zone has announced the squad against the BCCI policy, under which the players coming in the central contract were also to be selected. KL Rahul, Washington Sundar and Mohammad Siraj are also excluded from South Zone Squad Duleep Trophy.

BCCI had advised the state cricket associations to select the players coming to the Central Contract about a month ago, but the South Zone has not done so. Tilak Verma is the only player in Squad who has a central contract. According to sources, South Zone officials say that national selectors should not have any role in the selection of zone teams. Officials also say that star players can come and play in India A team anytime, but the Dilip Trophy should be seen as a platform, on which the players can go to the Ranji Trophy.

According to The Indian Express, Tilak Verma will be the captain of the South Zone team, while Mohammad Azharuddin will play the role of the vice -captain of the team. The South Zone squad will include many famous players, including Sai Kishore, Devdutt Padikkal, N Jagdishan and Vijaykumar Vaishak. Sai Sudarshan, who is currently playing Test series in England, has been excluded from the team.

This will not be the first time Tilak Verma will be captaining a team. He was seen captaining the Hyderabad team several times in the last season. Last year, news came that BCCI can completely eliminate the zonal system, but now the same zonal system has been returned. It was decided in a meeting of BCCI in March this year, which will be implemented in the upcoming domestic season.
