A Chinese diplomat in India has targeted America over Donald Trump’s additional 100 percent tariff on imports from China and export control on American software. He said that if Washington does not relent, his country will respond appropriately.

Speaking at an event on Wednesday (October 23) in Kolkata, Chinese Consul General Xu Wei said regarding the US-China tariff war that America should correct its mistakes, otherwise China will be forced to take necessary steps to protect its rights.

‘If forced, we will definitely respond’
Responding to a question from reporters, Wei said, “China’s stance on the issue of the US-China tariff war is very clear. We do not want any conflict, but if we are forced, we will definitely respond. We will fight, but our doors are open. We are reiterating that cooperation benefits both countries.”

Wei stressed that both India and China should formulate a strategy to face the current challenge. Not only China, but America and India also need cooperation because cooperation benefits everyone and confrontation hurts everyone. He further said that from January to September 2025 alone, trade between the two countries reached US $ 115 billion, which shows strong commercial relations despite global challenges.

China stopped buying soybean from America
In response to US tariffs, China did not import any soybeans from the US in September. This was the first time since November 2018 that the shipment became zero. Instead, imports from South America increased faster than a year ago, as Chinese buyers avoided US goods amid ongoing trade tensions between the two largest global economies.

Huge loss to American farmers
Experts believe that without progress in trade talks, US farmers are at risk of losing billions of dollars as Chinese soybean traders continue to import from South American suppliers. However, Beijing may face supply shortages before Brazil’s new crop is ready early next year.

US President Donald Trump is continuously putting pressure on the world regarding trade. In such a situation, China has now given a big blow to America. This is the first time in 7 years that China has not purchased American soybean. In the last month i.e. September 2025, China has not imported soybean from America.

According to the data shared by China, imports from America have decreased from 1.7 million metric tons to zero in the last month i.e. September 2025. Experts say that this move by China may increase the economic pressure on America, because trade tension between the two countries is continuously increasing.

turning towards other countries

Due to trade tension, China is now turning its trade towards other countries. China’s import of soybean from Brazil has increased by 29.9 percent to 10.96 million tons. That means this is about 85 percent of the total imports. At the same time, imports from Argentina have also increased by 91.5% to 1.17 million tonnes. In such a situation, leaving America aside, China is now turning towards countries like Brazil and Argentina. Its direct impact is being seen on American farmers.

An expert of Capital Jingdu Futures says that China is the world’s largest soybean importer. But the decline in imports is mainly due to tariffs. On the other hand, American farmers are facing losses worth billions of dollars due to China stopping the import of American soybeans. Experts say that if these conditions persist for a long time, the American agricultural sector may suffer a major setback.
