Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League will be held in the same window, in which many foreign players are also participating. Although everyone’s first choice is IPL, but many of those who do not get a chance to play in it choose PSL. PSL will start from March 26, the first match of IPL is on March 28. Earlier, Chennai Super Kings have included Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson in their team as a replacement, who was to play in PSL. The big thing is that Johnson’s salary was higher in PSL.

Spencer Johnson was selected in the Quetta Gladiators team in Pakistan Super League 2026. But citing personal reasons he withdrew his name from PSL. After this, Chennai Super Kings announced his inclusion in their team. He joined the team as a replacement for Nathan Ellis. Let us tell you that Ellis was out of the tournament due to injury. Ellis was injured (hamstring) during the domestic ODI Cup final played on 11 March.

Left PSL even on high salary

The priority of all players is to play in IPL, that is why Spencer Johnson came to IPL despite having less salary than PSL. Johnson played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL last year, in which he took only 1 wicket in 4 matches. Johnson made his debut playing for Gujarat Titans in 2024, he had 4 wickets in 5 matches that season.

Quetta Gladiator signed Johnson for PKR 5.6 crore, which is Rs 1.87 crore in Indian currency. Whereas he has joined CSK with a contract of Rs 1.5 crore, i.e. Rs 37 lakh less. However, IPL is a much bigger cricket league than PSL, which is watched by people all over the world. Johnson will be eager to share the dressing room with Dhoni.

Another foreign player has entered IPL 2026 by defying the Pakistan Super League. After Blessing Muzarabani and Dasun Shanaka, Spencer Johnson has become the third player to join the IPL after rejecting the PSL contract. Australian fast bowler Johnson has joined Chennai Super Kings. He has replaced CSK team main Nathan Ellis, who has been ruled out of the entire season due to a hamstring injury.

Spencer Johnson was scheduled to play for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2026, but he withdrew his name from the tournament citing personal reasons. Let us tell you that Johnson has earlier been a part of the squads of Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders. Johnson will get Rs 1.5 crore for playing in IPL 2026.

Johnson can bowl at a speed of 140-150 km per hour regularly. He is 6 feet 4 inches tall, hence he has been able to make even the best batsmen shine with bounce. Johnson has taken 5 wickets in 9 matches so far in his IPL career. Last season he played for Kolkata Knight Riders, but was able to take only one wicket in 4 matches.

Chennai Super Kings were hoping that Nathan Ellis would take up that role after Mathisha Pathirana moved to KKR, but he got injured before the start of the season. Now Spencer Johnson can be seen carrying out the same responsibility.

Chennai Super Kings will play its first match in IPL 2026 with Rajasthan Royals on March 30. This match will be played in Guwahati. He has to play matches with Punjab Kings on 3 April, Royal Challengers Bangalore on 5 April and then Delhi Capitals on 11 April. CSK team was at the bottom in the points table last season.
