Sri Lanka made a rule that players participating in the league under the icon and star category were required to have 2.5 lakh followers on social media. There was a lot of uproar from cricket fans regarding this rule, after which Sri Lanka decided to change the rule.

Sri Lanka changed the rules

According to the Newswire report, the updated version of the player registration and draft guide for the sixth season of the Lanka Premier League, released on May 9, no longer includes the old condition according to which players in the icon and star categories should have more than 250,000 followers on social media.

Conditions were kept last season also

Let us tell you that for the players included in the icon and star category of the league in the last season, it was mandatory to play at least 75 T20 International matches, more than 100 franchise T20 matches and play 30 matches in the last 18 months. Along with this, the league had also made it mandatory for players to have more than 250,000 followers on social media platforms.

When will the sixth season of the league be played?

It is noteworthy that the sixth season of Sri Lanka Premier League will be played between 10th July to 05th August. In the last season i.e. 2024 Lanka Premier League, Jaffna Kings won the title by defeating Galle Marvels. Now it will be interesting to see which team wins in the upcoming season.
