The United Nations has officially declared a famine in Gaza City and its surrounding areas. This is the first time that some place in West Asia is said to be famine. The report of Integrated Food Security Face Classification says that the situation here has become so serious that about 5 lakh people are facing the threat of destructive hunger and death. When is the famine declared

Three conditions are required to be fulfilled to declare the word United Nations famine.

• In which the first condition does not have enough food with at least 20% of the population of a place.
• At the same time, another condition is that in every 10,000 people, two people are dying of hunger daily, only then a famine is declared.
• Apart from this, the third condition is that more than 30 percent of the children should be malnourished at that place.

When these three conditions are fulfilled, it is assumed that starvation has now reached the situation of broader deaths. At the same time, a famine is declared at any place in such circumstances.

Ghaza’s terrible picture

According to the UN report, Gaza Governor, which is about 20% on the entire strip, has already reached the IPC Face 5 i.e. Famine confirmed level. Here more than half a million people are deprived of food medicines and drinking water. 98% of the agricultural sector of Gaza is either completely destroyed or out of reach. Apart from this, Livestock is over and there is a ban on fishing. In March 2025, Israeli completely stopped food supply in Gaza. There was some relief in May but by then the condition had deteriorated a lot.

UN warning

The UN has said that if there was no immediate ceasefire and human help is not provided to Gaza, then the number of people who died of hunger will increase manifold in the coming weeks. UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres has called it humanity failure and fully man-made disaster.

Israel’s refusal

However, Israel has rejected the United Nations report. Israel’s Foreign Ministry says that there is no famine in Gaza. There has reached a large amount of assistance in recent weeks and the prices of food items have fallen. Israel claims that this report is a document prepared under political pressure.

Local doctors said that these 10 deaths occurred in two separate incidents in Central and South Gaza. At the same time, the health officials of Gaza informed that 13 people were also shot at the Zikim crossing in North Gaza on Sunday.

Israeli cleaning and strategy
The Israeli army did not give any direct comment on Monday’s incident, but said that they did not shoot on Monday in the relief center where people were killed in South Gaza. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he will discuss the strategy this week with his security cabinet.

180 killed due to hunger, 93 children involved
According to Gaza Health Ministry, five more people have died of hunger in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the war, 180 people have died of hunger, including 93 children. The United Nations has said that food aircraft are not enough, more relief should be sent immediately through the land.

How many help did Israel send?
COGAT (Israeli military agency) said that more than 23,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid was sent to Gaza in 1,200 trucks last week. However, hundreds of these trucks are still not able to reach the distribution centers. The Israeli army said that 120 food packets were aircraft on Monday with the cooperation of six countries.

Hamas -ruled Gaza Media Office said that since the end of July, Israel has allowed limited relief, so far 600 relief trucks have arrived. But witnesses and sources in Hamas say that many of these trucks were looted on the way. According to the United Nations and Palestinian officials, Gaza needs at least 600 relief trucks every day, which was the number allowed by Israel before the war.

The war began on 7 October 2023, when Hamas attacked Southern Israel and killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostage. In response, Israel started attacking Gaza.
