Stock Market Holiday: Voting for municipal elections in Maharashtra will be held today on January 15. On this occasion, National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE will remain closed today. Both the exchanges had issued circulars giving this information a few days ago.

According to the circular, there will be no trading in equity segment, equity derivatives, commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts on the election day. In view of the holiday of 15th January, the F&O Sensex expiry of BSE was on Wednesday, 14th January. Apart from Mumbai, voting is also to be held today in cities like Thane and Navi Mumbai.

What is F&O Expiry??

F&O i.e. Futures and Options – This is a type of derivatives trading in the stock market, under which you make a contract to buy or sell the shares at a fixed date in the future without buying them immediately. At the same time, Expiry means that when you buy a future or option contract (F&O contract), there is a fixed time limit for selling it, the last day of which is called ‘Expiry Day’. You have to sell the contract by this day. Otherwise, it gets automatically closed.

Stock Market Holiday: The month of December has started from today. Today is Monday, the first day of the month, so the Indian stock market will remain open. Usually the stock market remains closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Apart from this, there is no trading in the stock market even on public holidays. As far as December is concerned, the official holiday list of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) shows that the month of December is going to be very active. Apart from the weekend holidays, only one trading holiday is scheduled during this period. Overall the stock markets will remain closed for nine days in the month of December.

Only 1 public holiday in December

The only public holiday in December is Christmas Day, on 25 December. There will be a holiday in the stock market on this day. On this occasion, there will be no trading anywhere in BSE from Equity Segment to Equity Derivatives Segment, Currency Derivatives Segments, SLB Segment, Tri Party Repo, Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR), NDS-RST, Commodity Derivatives Segment.

Similarly, in NSE also all the segments like Equities, Equity Derivatives, Corporate Bonds, Mutual Funds, Security Lending and Borrowing Schemes, New Debt Segments, Negotiated Trade Reporting Platform, Currency Derivatives, Commodity Derivatives and Interest Rate Derivatives will remain closed.

Additionally, markets will remain closed on all Saturdays and Sundays – December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, and 28. That means this year investors got a chance to participate in 22 trading sessions. This year there were a total of 14 trading holidays in the stock market and among these, Christmas is the last festive break of the year.

Investor confidence strengthened

On the Sensex, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and Infosys suffered the most losses, while Mahindra & Mahindra, SBI and Kotak Mahindra Bank provided significant support. This week, both the benchmark indices registered gains for the third consecutive week, increasing by about 0.5 percent. Bajaj Broking Research said, “On November 28, Indian markets closed almost flat and Nifty remained near the level of 26,200. Positive talks on trade agreement between India and America strengthened the sentiment of investors. Second quarter GDP and IIP data is also coming soon, so the overall outlook remains good.

Muhurta Trading: The whole country is busy preparing for Diwali. This time Diwali will be celebrated on Monday, 20th October. However, the stock market will not remain closed during this period. On this day, there will be trading in the stock market as usual. That means on this day the market will be open from 9 am to 3:30 pm. Trading will continue in the stock market on the day the entire country celebrates Diwali.

Now the question comes that why would this happen? Actually, the holiday dates are different in both National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). For this reason the stock market will remain closed on 21st and 22nd October. Stock markets will remain closed on Tuesday, October 21 for Diwali Lakshmi Puja and on Wednesday, October 22 for Diwali Balipratipada.

What is Muhurat Trading?

Muhurta trading is a special trading session held for one hour on the day of Diwali. The word ‘Muhurta’ means auspicious time and is considered the auspicious beginning of Samvat 2082 in the Hindu calendar. Many investors start new investments on this day. BSE and NSE open their terminals during this period, even though the markets remain closed for the rest of the day. During this time, investors focus more on investing not for profit but to remain prosperous throughout the year. Generally, on this day, investors especially place bets on such shares which will give them profits in the long term. Generally, there is a rise in the stock market during Muhurta trading.

When will Muhurta trading happen?

Muhurta trading will take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. The pre-open session will run from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm, after which the trading window will be open from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm. The closing session has been scheduled from 2.55 pm to 3.05 pm. Generally Muhurta trading starts around 6 pm. That means this time Muhurta trading will take place in the afternoon instead of the evening.

Stock market holiday: There may be confusion in some investors regarding whether there will be trading in the Indian stock market today. In such a situation, let us know that on Thursday, on 2 October, the stock markets will be closed due to the festival of Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti. There will be no business or settlement in stock, derivatives and commodity segment on Thursday in National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE. This business week will be small due to holidays. Now the stock market will open directly on 3 October, Friday.

Stock market holidays in October

There will be two more holidays in the month of October- Diwali (on the day of Lakshmi Pujan) on 21 October and Diwali Balipratipada on 22 October. Now the question comes, at what time will Muhurta trading be held during this period?

On the occasion of Diwali, Muhurta trading on NSE will be held on Tuesday, October 21. The stock exchange said in a circular that the trading session will be held between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm. Last year, the Muhurta trading session was organized between 6 pm and 7 pm.

Why is Muhurta trading special?

The Hindu calendar year starts from Diwali. It is believed that doing business at the time of Muhurta trading is auspicious for investors. During this time, investing in new stocks or adding new stock to your portfolio remains profitable. Trading is done from Monday to Friday, 9:15 am to 3:30 pm on domestic stock market. There is also a pre-open session from 9:00 am to 9:15 pm in regular business days. The market remains closed on Saturday and Sunday. After October 5, there will be no trading in the stock market on the occasion of Prakash Guruparva on 5 November. After this, the stock market will be closed on the occasion of Christmas on 25 December.

Stock market holiday: The Indian stock market will remain closed for 3 days in October. Normal trading will not be done on 2 October (Thursday) regarding Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra. This information has been given on the official website of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE). Along with this, the market will be closed on 21 and 22 October with Diwali, Lakshmi Pujan and Balipratipada. However, on October 21, a special trading session has been kept for ‘Muhurta Trading’ on 21 October at the stock exchange.

With this, on November 5, there will be no transaction in the market regarding Prakash Guruparva. At the same time, people will not be able to trading on 25 December due to Christmas. This year, the stock market was closed on August 27 due to Ganesh Chaturthi.

What is Diwali Muhurta Trading?

According to Indian belief, Diwali is considered a symbol of victory over the evil of good. Similarly, Diwali Muhurta trading is a symbol of the beginning of the new Hindu calendar year in Indian stock markets. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) have announced the time of ‘Muhurta Trading’. This year, the trading session has been kept on October 21 from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm. It is celebrated as a ritual in the Indian stock market.

It is believed that in this auspicious time, doing Muhurta trading provides benefits to investors throughout the year. They also get financial benefits. Last year, Muhurta Tedering was held between 6 pm and 7 pm.

Indian Stock Market Holiday: The government of Maharashtra announced a public holiday on 8 September 2025 on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi. On this day, people associated with the Muslim community will take out a procession of Eid-e-Milad, in view of which the government has taken this decision. Now since September 8 is Monday, there is confusion among investors about whether there will be trading in the stock market on this day.

Do this work to avoid confusion

In order to avoid this confusion, investors and stock market experts are advised to see the list of holidays in the stock market in 2025 on BSE official website bseindia.com. Above the website, click on the Trading Holiday toolbar and see the list of stock market holidays in 2025. It has been told in this list that despite the festival of Buddha Purnima 2025 on 12 May 2025, the Indian stock market will remain open. This means that NSE and BSE will be open on Monday.

Stock market holidays in September

According to the holiday list in the stock market in the year 2025, there will be no holiday in the stock market in September 2025. That is, no business week will be small. Except for Saturday and Sunday holidays in NSE and BSE, business activities will run normally throughout the day.

Holidays in the stock market in 2025

As it has already been reported that in September 2025, there will be no holiday for the stock Baja. There will be a three-day holiday in the stock market in October 2025- 2 October 2025 For Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra, for 21 October 2025 for Diwali, and 22 October 2025 for Diwali Balipratipada. After this, there will be two more holidays of the stock market in 2025- on 5 November 2025 for Shri Guru Nanak Dev Prakash Parv and Christmas holiday on 25 December 2025.

Stock market holiday: On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, Indian stock markets including BSE and NSE will be open only four days next week. The remaining three days will be left. There will be no business in the stock market on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday i.e. 27, 31 and 31 August. Since investors are busy preparing for their trading strategy for the next week, it is very important for them to know on which day the stock market will be closed and on which day it will be open.

When will the stock market be closed?

Indian stock markets including BSE and NSE will remain closed on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi as the government of Maharashtra has compulsorily announced leave on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, so BSE and NSE in Mumbai are closed every year. The month of August is also about to end next week. Apart from Saturday and Sunday in September, there is a possibility of any other holiday in the stock market.

However, the stock market will be closed on 2, 21 and 22 October on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Diwali in the month of October. Muhurta trading will take place on 21 October. Let us know that every year on the day of Diwali, it opens for an hour between about six to seven o’clock in the evening. Since trading is considered auspicious during this time, during the time of Muhurta trading, there is a fierce trading in the stock market. It is believed that during this time, there is prosperity throughout the year.

How will the stock market move next week?

On the one hand, the US Fed Reserve is expected to open on positive notes of the Indian stock market amid hopes of cutting interest rates. Indian stock will also get support in the global market and weak in the dollar index. However, in the midst of all this, the deadline for installing American tariffs is also getting closer, so investors are also watching this.

Stock market holiday: There will be no trading in the Indian stock market today. On Friday, August 15, 2025, Indian equity and commodity markets will remain closed on the occasion of 78th Independence Day of the country. Due to this, there will be no business in all these segments on both equity, derivatives and securities lending and SLB (Securities Landing-Bauraing) on both Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE). Now the business will be on Monday, August 18, 2025. This is a scheduled holiday, that is, every year on August 15, the stock market is closed because today is a national holiday. In such a situation, there will be no activity in any segment.

All day holiday in commodity trading

Along with the stock market, other commodity trading platforms will also be closed. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will not work in its morning and evening sessions i.e. there will be no business in bullion, base metal, energy contracts or other commodities. India’s largest Agri-Commodity Platform, National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will also be completely closed. This means that there will be no business in agricultural products like oilseeds, pulses, grains and spices.

Due to no trading in the equity and commodity segment on August 15, there will be a focus of investors on global signals and economic development during this long weekend, which can be helpful in fixing its direction when the market opens.

Stock market will be closed on this day too

Ganesh Chaturthi – 27 August, 2025

Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti – October 2, 2025

Diwali – Lakshmi Pujan – October 20, 2025

Guru Nanak Jayanti – November 5, 2025

Christmas – 25 December, 2025

Banks will also be closed

Along with the stock market, banks will also be closed across the country today. Despite having a long weekend from 15 August 2025 to 17 August 2025, there is a workday on 16 August, Saturday. During this time, banks will be open in Tripura, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, New Delhi, Goa, Himachal Pradesh.

Stock market holiday: In August 2025, it is necessary for those doing business in the stock market to know that there will be a special holiday for two days this month. According to the official calendar of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the market will remain closed on Friday, August 15, Independence Day on August 15 and Ganesh Chaturthi on Wednesday, August 27. These days, there will be no trading work including equity, equity derivatives.

When and when the stock market closed this month?

Apart from this, there will also be regular weekends’ regular holidays – the market will remain closed on August 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31. Significantly, there are relatively few business holidays in August, while in September and October, there is more holiday in the market due to many festivals like Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra and Diwali.

A special event of Muhurta trading is also held on the day of Diwali, when the market opens for a limited time. In such a situation, if you invest or trading in the stock market, then it will be beneficial for you to keep these holidays in advance.

Obviously, investors should make their plans in advance in view of the upcoming business holidays in the domestic market. This month, there is a lot of ups and downs in the stock market.

It has become a total of 50 percent after the additional 25 percent tariff imposed on India by President Donald Trump. In such a situation, there is an atmosphere of doubt among investors. However, President Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 and PM Modi’s possible American tour still remains in the market.
