School Tuition Fees Hike 2026: Amidst the ongoing protests over NEET paper leak, another concern related to education has come to light. The cost of children’s education is continuously increasing and its effect is now directly visible on the pockets of parents. Statistics show that in the recent past, the highest increase in tuition fees has been recorded at the school level.

Fees for primary and higher secondary schools have increased more rapidly than those for higher education. At the same time, figures have emerged that are different from what the common people think regarding the fees of coaching and tuition centres. Highest increase in tuition fees at school level

According to the data, retail inflation related to education services remained less than 4 percent in the first half of the year 2026. However, the pace of increase in fees at different education levels was not the same. During this period, an increase of about 3.5 to 4 percent was recorded in the tuition fees of higher education. This increase was almost equal to the fee inflation at the middle school level, while the fee increase at the primary school level was less than this.

Higher increase in school fees in the long run

If compared with 2024, a higher increase in fees was seen at the school level. According to the data, in the first six months of 2026, an increase of 6 to 9 percent was recorded in the tuition fees of primary and higher secondary schools. At the same time, tuition fees for higher education increased by 4 to 6 percent during the same period. In such a situation, in the last two years, the pace of increase in fees at school level has been higher than that of colleges and universities.

Different picture emerged regarding coaching and tuition centers

The report also revealed that the common perception regarding the fees of coaching and tuition centers is not completely correct. According to the data, compared to the base year of 2024, only 3 to 4 percent increase in fees of coaching and tuition centers was recorded. During this period, their fees increased less than those of schools.
