West Bengal Assembly election: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shubhendu Adhikari on Thursday (April 23, 2026), citing the high turnout of 91.78 percent in the first phase of West Bengal Assembly elections, predicted that BJP will win 125 out of 152 seats in this phase.

After the conclusion of the first phase of voting, opposition leader and BJP candidate Adhikari from Nandigram and Bhawanipur constituencies expressed confidence that the party is going to get a decisive mandate in the 2026 assembly elections.

He credited the Election Commission for ensuring a smooth voting process. The official said, ‘BJP will get around 125 seats in this phase itself.’ Today, a total of 91.87 percent of the 3.6 crore voters cast their votes in the first phase.

Suvendu Adhikari also discussed the voting trends and said that due to the huge anti-people wave against the ruling party in the state, minority votes seem to be consolidating, but “only when the results come, it will be known that a large majority of Hindu voters – about 85 percent – are with the BJP.”

He said that the party’s prospects remain strong in the second phase and the main challenge is to stop the threats being spread by the ruling party workers. The official said that ‘the strictness of the Election Commission helped in maintaining discipline in the first phase.’ He expressed hope that similar control would continue.
