In recent years, Russia has presented one very dangerous weapon to the world one after the other – the air-to-air nuclear powered cruise missile Burevestnik, the undersea attack Poseidon underwater drone and the new nuclear submarine Khabarovsk built to carry them. Russia has launched Khabarovsk only on November 2. In fact, as per Russia’s claim, these systems have the capability to cause long range and massive destruction. Now the question is what is Russia’s real intention with all this and what is its long game.

Burevestnik – ‘unlimited range’ missile
Russia claims that the Burevestnik (SSC-X-9 / Skyfall) is a nuclear reactor-powered cruise missile, which does not have to worry about running out of fuel. According to reports, despite looking small, it can carry warheads of large size (up to about 40 megatons) and tries to avoid radar by flying near the sea surface. Russia has said it was tested in 2024 and is being fielded in 2025; Russia claims that this missile can reach very far.

Poseidon – Undersea ‘Doomsday’ Machine
Poseidon is said to be a nuclear-powered unmanned underwater vehicle. According to Russia’s claims, it can carry a nuclear warhead of up to 100 megatons, can dive to great depths and can travel for thousands of kilometers. Russia said that its successful test took place on 5 November 2024 and it will be brought into service soon. Poseidon is said to cause tsunami-like destruction on large coasts, hence it is also called ‘Doomsday Weapon’.

Khabarovsk submarine – Poseidon career
On 2 November 2025, Russia launched a new nuclear submarine named Khabarovsk (Project 09851). This submarine is specially made to carry the Poseidon drone and drop it in the open ocean. According to Russia, it can house 6–8 Poseidons and will be ready for full deployment by 2027. Russia says that this submarine will keep Poseidon safe and hidden, which will further increase strategic reach.

What is Russia’s real plan?
According to analysts, Russia wants to achieve several objectives through these weapons – to intimidate NATO and the West so that they do not enter into direct conflict; enhancing asymmetric strategic capabilities to hide our weaknesses in conventional combat; To acquire the ability to launch rapid and unexpected attacks on enemy shores from sea and open ocean; And to guarantee retaliation by strengthening its nuclear triad (land-air-sea). Along with this, it is also being considered as a step to give strategic pressure and diplomatic edge.

Experts’ warnings and international impact
Many security experts warn that the presence of these ‘highly destructive’ weapons could increase global tensions and nuclear risks. Mistake, technical fault or misunderstanding can cause a major accident. At the same time, Russia calls these defensive steps and says that its objective is not any aggression but to ensure the security of the country.

To increase the strength of the Indian Navy, the Majhgaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has started a conversation on the submarine project-75 (I). The conversation was possible after the approval of the central government on August 23, when the Ministry of Defense and MDL were allowed to start negotiations on the construction of six modern submarines in collaboration with Germany under the ‘Project 75 India’ scheme of Rs 70,000 crore.

The Ministry opened MDL’s bid for this project on January 16, 2025. After the completion of this project, India’s strategic position in the Indian Ocean region will be stronger. The government company Majgaon Docyard Limited has emerged as the major contender in the multi-dollar submarine deal with its technical colleague German company Thesencroup Marine Systems (TKMS). The Ministry of Defense selected the proposal of MDL and TKMS in January, under which six submarines would be equipped with modern technology like Air Independent Propulsion System.

What did CEO of Theseenkroup Marine Systems say?

The CEO of TheSencroup Marine Systems (TKMS) said in an interview to the Economic Times that the company has been chosen as a technical partner of Indian companies for the Project-75 (I) submarine project. According to him, this partnership will create an ecosystem that will make India competitive in the global market in the coming years.

This is the target of the Ministry of Defense and the Indian Navy

The target of the Ministry of Defense and the Indian Navy is to get the final approval by completing the contract negotiations in the next six months. Along with this, India is also stepping towards the construction of two nuclear attackers submarines, in which Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and submarine construction center will play an important role.

Experts believe that this initiative is a big jump towards India to develop Navy Modernization, Made in India program and indigenous technical capacity. For Germany, it is a symbol of cooperation in Asia’s largest traditional submarine programs. After the recent high-level dialogue, TKMS, MDL and Indian representatives pledged to strengthen mutual cooperation in the defense sector and give a new height to the naval industry of India. TKMS aims to transfer important information related to submarine design to India, while MDL assimilates these techniques and gain the ability to develop indigenous submarines in the future.

Project-75 (I): What is special?

It is a major military acquisition project of the Ministry of Defense (MOD).

Under this, diesel-electrical attacker submarines will be purchased for the Indian Navy.

These submarines will be equipped with fuel cell and air independent propulsion system (AIP).

The purpose of the project is not only to increase the naval power of India, but also to develop indigenous submarine manufacturing capacity.

This project is the sequel to Project-75, in which design and technology will be further improved.

When Donald Trump was preparing for nuclear talks with Kim Jong-un, his team tried to gain a strategic lead over North Korea. According to the New York Times report, the Trump administration tried to intercept Kim Jong’s calls and make a dent in his communication system, but the mission failed completely. The US conducted a very dangerous secret operation against North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un. The New York Times report stated that the Seal Team 6 carried out a high -risk mission in 2019, but the mission failed.

The purpose of secret mission
The American Special Navy Force Seal Team 6 aims to install an electronic device to intercept Kim Jong-un’s communication system. This operation was done when nuclear talks were going on between the US and North Korea.

Causes of mission failure
During the mission, the team found a common civilian boat from North Korea, in which some sailors were collecting seaweed. The team felt that their identity had been revealed, so they stopped the operation.

Firing revealed
The New York Times report states that North Korean sailors were shot, while they were unarmed. After this, the Seal team planned to come back safely. The mission consisted of more than two dozen persons, including former officers and military personnel. When asked about this mission, Donald Trump said, “I don’t know anything about it. I am listening for the first time.”

Mission preparation
In 2018, American intelligence agencies proposed to the White House. Trump approved it in the 2018 fall. After this, the Seal team practiced in American water areas for several months. Then, in early 2019, preparations were made to execute the mission.

Mission strategy
Seals from nuclear-managed submarine were sent to North Korean Jalasima after riding in two mini-sabmarin. They had to make safe return by installing communication equipment there. But seeing a boat, the mission was canceled.

North Korea came to know or not?
It is not yet clear whether the North Korean government got information about this mission or not. The Pentagon did not comment on it.

Trump and Kim meet
Donald Trump had three historic meetings with Kim Jong-Un- Singapore (June 2018), Hanoi (February 2019) and Panmunjom (June 2019). The Seal team was confident that they had completed the mission last time (in 2005) without holding.

Anti submarine rocket: DRDO has prepared indigenous anti -submarine rockets to kill enemy submarines. By the last 15 days (23 June-7 July), the Navy of India successfully conducted this Extempted Range Anti Submarine Rocket (ERASR ie Erazer).

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has sent best wishes to the Navy, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the industry for this success. According to Rajnath Singh, this test has increased the ‘strikeing-power’ of the Indian Navy.

17 testing of 17 rockets on separate range
In the last 15 days, the Indian Navy, along with DRDO’s Pune-based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) lab, had tested 17 rockets from the INS Kawatti warship on a separate range. Naval Science and Technological Laboratory also helped in this user-trial.

Erazer is a completely indigenous rocket
The special thing is that the erazer was tested only through indigenous rocket launcher. According to the Ministry of Defense, the erazer is a completely indigenous rocket, which is used to fight through Indian Navy warships. It has two-in rocket motor conference, due to which the erazer can be fired on different range through extreme accuracy. This anti-Sabarine rocket has an indigenous electronic time fuse.

Soon Indian Nocket will join Indian Navy
In addition to the range during the test, electronic time fuse functioning and warhead were also tested. Due to successful user-trials, the way for the emerger rocket to join the Indian Navy has been cleared soon. According to the Ministry of Defense, both the government undertaking Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and private company Solar Defense and Aerospace Limited (Nagpur) will produce erazer rockets together.
