Eighth Pay Commission Updates: More than 48 lakh central employees and more than 68 lakh pensioners are eagerly waiting for the Eighth Pay Commission. The tenure of the Seventh Pay Commission has ended on 31 December 2025, so now the employees are hopeful that the new pay scales will be implemented soon and the increased salary will be visible in their bank accounts. Meanwhile, the Central Government has started the consultation process and sought suggestions from employees and concerned parties on issues related to salary, pension and allowances, so that it can help in finalizing the recommendations of the Commission.

Government asked for feedback

This step of the government has awakened new hope among the employees. The formation of the Eighth Pay Commission was announced for the first time in January 2025. After this, a formal notification was issued in November 2025 and the terms of reference were approved. The commission has been given 18 months time to prepare its recommendations and submit them to the government. It is believed that the Commission will consider important issues like inflation, existing pay structure, fitment factor and pension revision.

If the Commission submits its report within the stipulated time frame, lakhs of employees and pensioners can get the benefit of increase in salary and pension. At present, everyone’s eyes are on when the Commission’s recommendations come and when the government implements them.

What is the update till now?

As per the situation so far, the Union Minister of State for Finance in response to a question asked in the Lok Sabha Pankaj Chaudhary Had given latest information regarding the Eighth Pay Commission. He said that the government had formally announced the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission by issuing an official notification on November 3, 2025. Also, the commission has been given a time of 18 months, within which it has to submit its recommendations related to the salaries, pensions and allowances of central employees to the government.

The government has also launched an official online platform/website for the 8th Pay Commission, where suggestions are being sought from ministers, various ministries and departments, central employees and other stakeholders. The aim of this digital platform is to make the consultation process more transparent and comprehensive, so that the views of all parties can be included on issues like pay structure, fitment factor, allowances and pension reforms.

At present the Commission is in the process of collecting suggestions and preliminary study. Now the eyes of employees and pensioners are fixed on when the Commission prepares its report and when the government takes the decision to implement it.
