Increase of more than 4300 crores in subsidy budget

This time the government has completely opened the treasury for the Kharif season. A huge subsidy amount of about Rs 41,533.81 crore has been approved for the Kharif season of 2026. If we compare it with last year i.e. Kharif 2025. So this time the government has decided to spend approximately Rs 4,317 crore more. Last year this budget was around Rs 37,216 crore.

• Increasing budget means that even if fertilizers are expensive in foreign countries. So its burden will not be put on the farmers.
• The government itself will bear this extra burden so that farmers continue to get fertilizers at the old affordable rates.

Subsidy will be available on 28 types of fertilizers

Government not only urea or DAP. In fact, it is giving subsidy on total 28 grades of P&K fertilizers. It also includes important fertilizers like NPKS which are essential for the health of the soil. These new rates have come into effect from April 1, 2026 and will remain effective till September 30, 2026 i.e. during the entire Kharif season.

• This decision has been taken in view of the considerable fluctuations seen in the prices of urea, DAP and sulfur in the international market.
• This subsidy will be transferred directly to the fertilizer companies so that they can provide fertilizers to the farmers in the market at subsidized rates.

Guarantee of fertilizer at right price

The biggest advantage of this nutrient based subsidy scheme of the government is that it curbs black marketing and arbitrary prices of fertilizers. The government is ensuring that the availability of fertilizers remains smooth and there is no news of fertilizer shortage in any state. Farmers will not have to wander here and there for fertilizer at the time of sowing of Kharif crops like paddy, maize and pulses.
