The city of New York has once again fallen victim to the outbreak of nature. A sudden flood warning was issued in New York city due to a powerful storm and continuous torrential rains that came on Thursday (31 July 2025). The videos and pictures revealed on social media have made the city’s delicate situation clear.

A video of the 7th Avenue station of Park Slope has gone viral, in which water seems to be rapidly leaking from the walls of the station. This view was not only dangerous for the passengers, but it also raises questions on the preparations for the metro system. In a picture of Brooklyn’s J Street-Metrootech station, it was seen that the water is flowing inside the station like a waterfall. This shows that this is not a minor water logging, but a serious disaster.

Dipped cars and stalled trains
Due to rain and storm, there was heavy waterlogging on the roads. A car appeared completely submerged on the Clearwatter Expressway in Queens. The Q Line trains in Brooklyn were stopped due to a fallen tree, affecting traffic badly. Traffic jams, submerged vehicles, and canceled train services indicate that the city’s infrastructure was not fully prepared for this disaster. Electricity supply was also disrupted in many areas, causing the residents to face more difficulties.

Mayor Eric Adams warns and emergency order
New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Twitter and wrote that I have declared the situation of Emergency. Travel advice and flood warning will be applicable till 8 am. If possible, stay where you are. He advised the citizens living in the basement apartments to be vigilant and go to height places. If you are living in the basement and have not gone to height till now, then leave now. This message of the mayor directly prioritize the safety of the people and reflects the readiness of the administration.

Zoharan Mamdani’s response to stay inside the house
Democratic Party mayor candidate Zoharan Mamdani also shared his views on Twitter. He wrote, “A powerful coastal storm is hitting our city and dangerous floods can affect thousands of New York people.” He suggested to the citizens to avoid metro stations or submerged roads and follow the instructions of the administration. It is clear from his words that this time is not of political rhetoric, but of collective security.
