T20 World Cup Super 8: In T20 World Cup 2026, eight teams including India and Pakistan qualified for Super-8. Now the battle to reach the semi-finals and finals has started between all these teams. The Indian team will play its first Super-8 match with South Africa on 22 February. Now the question is whether Team India will go to the semi-finals after only one win. Will a win over South Africa be enough to reach the semi-finals? Here, understand in simple language the complete format of Super-8 and what India will have to do to reach the semi-finals.

First of all understand the format of Super-8. There were a total of 20 teams in the tournament, they were divided into 4 groups of five each. The two teams that stood first and second in these four groups got a place in the Super-8. Now these eight teams have again been divided into two different groups. Group A includes India, Zimbabwe, West Indies and South Africa, who were on top in their respective groups. Whereas Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and England are present in Group B.

Will one win do the trick?

Now coming to the real issue, if the Indian team defeats South Africa in the Super-8 match on 22nd February, will it reach the semi-finals? The answer is, no. Actually, India and other teams will play three matches each in Super-8. Team India has to play matches with South Africa on 22 February, Zimbabwe on 26 February and then West Indies on 1 March.

If the Indian team remains in the top-2 of the Super-8 points table after the results of these 3 matches, then it will get entry into the semi-finals. To remain in the top-2, India will have to register at least 2 wins. The same rule applies to the other groups of Super-8 also.
