Mahaparva Chhath is considered an important festival related to Sun worship, in which there is a tradition of offering Arghya to the setting and rising Sun. In Hindu religion, the Sun is worshiped as a planet as well as a deity.

Sun God is worshiped for long life, good health, brightness, strength, success, desire to have children etc. Actually, worshiping Sun God regularly is considered fruitful. But during Chhath festival its importance increases considerably as compared to other days.

However, along with Chhath, there are many festivals in Hindu religion which are related to the worship of Sun God. Let us know about these festivals.

Makar Sankranti- The festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated when Sun God transits in Capricorn, which usually falls on 14 January-15 January. Surya Uttarayan also occurs from the day of Makar Sankranti. There is a tradition of taking bath early in the morning and offering Arghya to the Sun.

Rath Saptami- The festival of Rath Saptami is celebrated on the seventh day of Magh Shukla. It is also known by names like Surya Jayanti, Magh Saptami, Arogya Saptami or Magh Jayanti. There is a religious belief that on this date the Sun God appeared riding on a chariot with seven horses.

Pongal- In Tamil Nadu and South Indian states, the festival of Pongal is celebrated with great pomp, which lasts for four days. Lord Sun God is also worshiped in this festival.

Lolark Shashthi- Lolark Shashthi festival is celebrated on the Shashthi of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha for the wish of having a child. On this day, there is a tradition of taking bath in a special pond in Varanasi.
