Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been honored with the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ award by the Seychelles government. This is a major honor for Seychelles, which is given for outstanding leadership in environmental protection, fighting climate change and sustainable development. This honor recognizes the efforts of PM Modi through which he has continuously promoted climate action, green growth and environmental protection.

This award reflects the long-standing thinking of PM Modi, in which equal importance has been given to environmental protection along with economic development. Under this honour, his contribution towards Blue Economy, proper utilization of marine resources and nature conservation has been specially appreciated. In the presidential citation, PM Modi’s role has also been described as important for supporting small island countries, increasing their capacity to deal with the climate crisis, strengthening international cooperation and responsible use of marine resources. Besides, the strengthening relations between India and Seychelles have also been underlined.

PM Modi responded

Responding to this honour, PM Modi expressed happiness on social media platform X. He said that he is very happy to receive the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ award. Dedicating this honor to the people of India, he said that it is a symbol of the responsibility and contribution of every citizen of the country towards environmental protection. PM Modi also reiterated that India is fully committed to strengthening global cooperation to protect the environment, sustainable development and a green future. This honor is another big achievement in the list of international honors received by PM Modi. Earlier in May 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organization had honored him with the Agricola Medal. This honor was given for strengthening food security, improving the agricultural sector and promoting sustainable farming.

PM Modi has received many other awards

Apart from this, in the year 2018, PM Modi was awarded the Seoul Peace Prize. He received this honor for promoting sustainable economic growth, global cooperation and inclusive development. In the same year, the UN also honored him with the ‘Champions of the Earth’ award, which is considered the biggest environmental honor of the United Nations. This honor was given to him for his leadership in climate action and international environmental cooperation. This new honor from Seychelles shows that PM Modi’s policies regarding environmental protection, fighting climate change and sustainable development are continuously being appreciated at the global level. This honor also reflects India’s growing global role and its strong identity in the field of environment.

In the outreach session of the G7 summit held in Evian, France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly raised the issue of inclusive and sustainable economic development. Speaking on the topic ‘Balanced, shared and sustainable economic development for all’, PM Modi said that today development cannot be measured only by GDP or trade figures.

He said, “The real question is not how much development has taken place, but for whom, with whom and in which direction the development is taking place.” The Prime Minister described India’s development model as inclusive, democratic and based on public participation. He said that India’s development journey is inspired by the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’.

PM Modi said that India has presented its vision of shared development to the world through its presidency of the G20 and initiatives like the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). He stressed that only shared development can turn aspirations into reality.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the ongoing crisis in West Asia. He said that the disruptions in fuel, fertilizer and food supply chains will continue to impact the countries of the Global South for a long time. In such a situation, the weakest countries should not bear the burden of these crises alone.

He appealed to international financial institutions to develop such cooperative mechanisms so that developing countries can withstand global shocks and maintain their economic strength.

PM Modi also proposed new connectivity projects with Africa, Latin America and Pacific island countries on the lines of IMEC. He said that an initiative like “International Mobilization Partnership for Accelerating Connectivity and Trade (IMPACT)” can be started by combining the capital of G7 countries, India’s talent and participation of countries of the Global South.

At the end of his address, the Prime Minister suggested forming a ‘Global Skills Partnership’. He said that while many developed countries are facing the challenge of aging population, India and the Global South have immense potential of young talent, skills and entrepreneurship, which can be harnessed for global development.

PM modi on global south: At the 17th BRICS Summit held at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke vocal about the concerns of Global South. He said that Global South has got only symbolic support on issues like climate finance, sustainable development and technical access. PM Modi’s statement came at a time when the member countries of BRICS are discussing the issues of global development and cooperation.

Dual criteria adopted with global South
PM Modi said that a double attitude has been adopted with global South in matters like distribution and security of development resources. He clarified that the real needs of these countries are being ignored and only nominal help is being given.

The Prime Minister also said that global institutions set up in the last century never gave correct representation to the two-thirds of humanity. Countries which have a big contribution to the economy of today’s world, did not get a place in the major meetings making decisions. He called it a question of credibility and effectiveness of institutions not only of representation, but also. He said that without global South, these institutions are such that there is a SIM in mobile, but there is no network.

India committed to contribute to global interests
In his address, the Prime Minister said that India has always been giving priority to the interests of humanity and it is fully committed to making creative contribution on all important issues with BRICS countries. He also said that India has ever worked not only for its selfishness, but for world welfare.

Welcome new countries in BRICS
Speaking on the expansion of BRICS, PM Modi said that the inclusion of new friendly countries shows that this organization has the ability to mold itself over time. This expansion reflects the increasing relevance and global effect of the BRICS.

President of China and Russia not joined
This time Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not participate in the BRICS conference. However, leaders of other member countries, including Prime Minister Modi, were present in the conference and shared views on global subjects.

Brics are expanding
The BRICS, which was limited to Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, included Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates in 2024. After this, Indonesia also became a member in 2025. With this expansion, a total of 10 countries have now joined the BRICS.
