Donations have poured in from across Australia to commemorate the heroic actions of Ahmed Al Ahmed, the man who snatched a gun from a shooter during the terrorist attack on Sydney’s Bondi Beach. The total amount of donation has now crossed 1.1 million Australian dollars (6,63,67,752 Indian rupees).

After being injured by a bullet during the terrorist attack, Ahmed Al Ahmed was admitted to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. It is being said that as Ahmed’s condition is improving, the amount of donations given by people in his support has increased rapidly.

Help through GoFundMe campaign for Ahmed

According to Reuters report, under the GoFundMe campaign started to help Ahmed, more than 1.1 million Australian dollars was collected in just one day. Billionaire head fund manager Bill Ackman emerged as the biggest donor to the campaign, donating 99,999 Australian dollars and sharing the fundraiser on his social media platform X.

Ahmed had pounced on the shooter during the terrorist attack.

Ahmed Al Ahmed, 43, a father of two, first hid behind cars parked in the parking lot during the terrorist attack and then suddenly pounced on a shooter from behind. After a scuffle with the shooter, they snatched his rifle from him, threw him on the ground and pointed his rifle at him. Officials say that this courageous action of Ahmed saved the lives of many people present at the spot.

Father and son attacked people during Jewish festival

Australian police said on Monday (December 15, 2025) that a 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son had attacked people on the beach on Sunday afternoon (December 14, 2025) during the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. A total of 15 people died in this attack. Officials described the attack as the country’s worst mass shooting in the last three decades.

Actually, shooter Naveed Akram had earlier studied in a university in Islamabad and he had also studied in Al-Murad Institute in Sydney, Australia.

However, reacting to the ongoing speculation on social media, New South Wales (NSW) Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon held a press conference. He said, ‘This is not the time for retaliation, this is the time to let the police do their job.’ He also said police have very little information about one of the suspects, so we are not focusing on that at this time.

According to officials, one of the two shooters involved in this attack was killed on the spot, while the other is hospitalized in critical condition. Now the police is also investigating whether any third attacker or his other associate was involved in this.

12 people killed, 11 injured in terrorist attack

At around 6:30 pm local time on Sydney’s Bondi Beach, two shooters started firing indiscriminately at thousands of people who had come to participate in the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. 12 people lost their lives in this attack, while 11 people were injured. Australian officials termed the incident as a terrorist attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the Australian government of promoting anti-Semitism in the period before the shootings in Sydney on Sunday (December 14, 2025). The Israeli Prime Minister said, ‘Three months ago I wrote to the Australian Prime Minister that your policy is adding fuel to the fire of anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is a cancer that spreads when leaders remain silent and take no action.’
