In the study, data of 57 populations from six different areas of the country was observed. The study also revealed that the rate of lung cancer among men is higher in districts like Kannur, Kasaragod and Kollam in South India, whereas the consumption of tobacco and alcohol is relatively less here. In the South, the highest number of cases among women were recorded in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. In northern India, cases were higher among men in Srinagar, while women in Srinagar and Pulwama also saw higher rates despite less intoxication. According to the report, in some areas, lung cancer cases are increasing every year at the rate of about 6.7 percent in women and 4.3 percent in men. The sharpest jump in cases was recorded in women in Thiruvananthapuram and in men in Dindigul.
