Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to send its team to India for the T20 World Cup due to security reasons. BCB has demanded from the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the World Cup matches of Bangladesh team should be shifted to Sri Lanka. There has been tension between the cricket boards of the two countries recently. Meanwhile, a media report has revealed that BCCI is currently maintaining silence on the Bangladesh issue.

On January 9, a meeting of senior BCCI officials was held. According to news agency PTI, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said that there was no discussion regarding the T20 World Cup controversy in this meeting. BCCI President Mithun Manhas and Vice President Rajiv Shukla were also present in this meeting.

According to PTI, Devjit Saikia said, “The purpose of this meeting was Center of Excellence (COE) and other topics related to cricket. It is not our subject to talk about this (T20 World Cup dispute with Bangladesh). We talked about the recruitment in COE, for which the process can start soon. There is a huge shortage of technical staff across the world, but we are trying to fill these posts as soon as possible.”

On the other hand, Bangladesh Cricket Board has officially sent a letter to ICC. In this letter, security concerns for Bangladeshi players in India were underlined. There was also a demand to shift the Bangladesh team’s World Cup matches to Sri Lanka.

T20 World Cup 2026 will start from 7th February. As per the schedule, Bangladesh has to play its league stage matches in Mumbai and Kolkata. Meanwhile, the ICC wants clarity on the security concerns put forward by Bangladesh.
