Bangladesh has announced a 15-member squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Nigar Sultana will be the captain of the team, while Nahida Akhtar has been made the vice-captain. The T20 World Cup tournament to be hosted by England and Wales will start from June 12 and continue till July 5. The surprising thing is that the selectors have included only 2 fast bowlers in the squad.

Bangladesh lacks fast bowlers

Marufa Akhtar and Fariha Islam, only these two fast bowlers have got a place in the World Cup squad. The World Cup is to be played in England and Wales, yet the selection of only 2 fast bowlers has raised questions. Chief selector Sajjad Ahmed admitted that there is a huge shortage of female fast bowlers in the country.

Sajjad Ahmed also expressed hope that the spinners have got help on the English pitches in recent times. He also admitted that Bangladesh management will have to accept that their pace attack is weak.

Top order batsman Sharmin Sultana has not been selected, in whose place Taj Nehar has been brought into the team. Sajjad Ahmed also admitted that only the strength of batting is a matter of concern for the team. The Chief Selector says that every possible effort will be made to remove the shortcomings of the team.

Bangladesh is in India’s group

Bangladesh has got a place in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in the same group in which India, Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, Netherlands are present. Bangladesh will start its World Cup campaign with a match against Netherlands on June 14.
