In a letter written to the International Cricket Board, Bangladesh Cricket Board had demanded to change the venue of the T20 World Cup matches. ICC has not yet come out with any stand on this, but BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia says that he has not yet received any update about whether ICC will change the venue of Bangladesh team’s matches or not. Saikia says that this matter belongs to ICC and BCB.

Bangladesh Cricket Board wanted its matches to be shifted to Sri Lanka. But according to some recent reports, ICC may propose to hold Bangladesh’s matches in Chennai and Trivandrum. On this, the BCCI Secretary says that he has not received any information that Bangladesh’s matches can be held on two other grounds in India. According to the current schedule, Bangladesh’s league matches are to be held in Mumbai and Kolkata.

According to news agency IANS, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said, “BCCI has not yet received any information on whether Bangladesh matches will be shifted to Chennai or any other place and it is not under our control. This is a matter between BCB and ICC because ICC is the governing body. If ICC informs us about the change in venue, then BCCI, being the host country, will take necessary steps. At present we have not received any such information.”

According to the current schedule of T20 World Cup 2026, Bangladesh was placed in Group C. It has to play its matches in Kolkata and Mumbai, but Bangladesh Cricket Board had refused to send its team to India for the World Cup matches citing security reasons. It will be interesting to see what decision the ICC gives on this.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had issued an official statement demanding to move its T20 World Cup 2026 matches out of India. Now according to a media report, ICC may approve Bangladesh’s demand to change the venue.

According to Cricbuzz, the International Cricket Council has not yet issued any statement, but ICC can get Bangladesh’s matches held in Sri Lanka. According to the current schedule, Bangladesh has to play its Group C matches on February 7, February 9, February 14 and February 17 in Kolkata and Mumbai. According to the report, a decision regarding the venue is possible within the next 2 days.

Earlier, a meeting of Bangladesh Cricket Board was held in Dhaka, in which it was decided that Bangladesh team will not go to India to play T20 World Cup matches.

In its statement, BCB had demanded that the World Cup matches be shifted out of India, describing the environment in India as unsafe for its players and officials. BCB also expressed hope that ICC will respond to this demand soon.

BCCI had taken a big decision

The reason behind this blasphemy of Bangladesh Cricket Board is Mustafizur Rahman. Rahman was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.20 crore in the IPL 2026 auction. But amidst deteriorating political relations between India and Bangladesh, KKR was heavily criticized for buying Mustafizur Rahman in the auction.

After that the Board of Control for Cricket in India had issued instructions to the KKR franchise to release Mustafizur Rahman. Kolkata franchise has released Rahman as per the instructions.
