He played a match-winning inning of 75 runs in the final match against Pakistan. After that Gambhir was also in Team India which won the 2011 ODI World Cup. This time too Gambhir shone in the final, where he played an innings of 97 runs.

When the Indian team came to bat first, Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma created havoc and scored 92 runs in just 6 overs. Abhishek scored fifty in 18 balls, which was the fastest fifty in the history of T20 World Cup final. Abhishek contributed 52 runs and Ishan Kishan also contributed 54 runs. Samson scored 89 runs, which was his third consecutive half-century innings in this World Cup. Abhishek Sharma played an innings of 52 runs in 21 balls, during which he scored a fifty in 18 balls. Ishan Kishan also contributed 54 runs in 25 balls.
