Pakistan has claimed that they asked America to remove the map of India in which PoK was shown as Indian territory. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday (February 12) that they had contacted US officials regarding the map, after which it was revised.

In fact, recently the United States Trade Representative (USTR) office had posted a map of India on its official X account. In this, the entire Jammu and Kashmir and Aksai Chin, including Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), were shown as Indian territory. However, this map was later removed from the handle of the USTR office.

What did the Pakistani Foreign Ministry say?
Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said on Thursday (February 12) that yes, this map was put on some handles. We contacted the US authorities and when they learned that this map was illegal. He further said that we are happy that the necessary correction has been made by the US side to highlight the legal UN approved map of our territory, which clearly describes Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed subject, the settlement of which has to be done through referendum in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council.

What did Pakistani newspaper Dawn tell?
Pakistani spokesperson said that an international map of Jammu and Kashmir is available on the United Nations website, in which Pakistani and Indian areas have been separated. Dawn’s report quoted diplomatic sources as saying that Pakistan had protested against the map to the US Embassy in Islamabad and State Department officials in Washington. According to the report, Pakistani officials had stressed that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed area.

India has made it clear on several occasions that it does not need validation from outside countries (especially any third country) for its territory, but sharing such a map through the official handle of America has strategic importance. American officials have not made any official comment regarding this map.

Andrabi said that during the conflict in May, Pakistan’s army showed that it is capable of responding to any attack in an effective, disciplined and responsible manner. He described it as an example of Pakistan’s defense capability.

Pakistan suffered huge losses during Operation ‘Sindoor’
This controversy has come to light at a time when discussions are going on regarding India’s Operation Sindoor. This operation was started on 7 May. Its objective was to target the terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK. This action was taken in response to the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 civilians were killed. After this four-day campaign, on May 10, both countries agreed to stop military activities. According to Indian Air Force Chief AP Singh, at least a dozen Pakistani military aircraft were destroyed or damaged in the attack, including several F-16s.
